Loyola University Chicago’s ( LUC ; www.luc.edu ) School of Environmental Sustainability ( www.luc.edu/sustainability ) and Quinlan School of Business ( www.luc.edu/quinlan ) invite applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning fall 2022. LUC seeks to diversify its faculty and is particularly encouraging BIPOC, women, and people with disabilities to apply. Environmental Sustainability and Quinlan are partnering in cross-school curricular development and research, and this position will serve as a keystone in the schools’ growing sustainable business curriculum, which currently includes a five-year dual bachelor’s/master’s degree and a minor in Sustainable Business Management. For more information about this curriculum, please visit http://www.luc.edu/sustainability/academics/envsci/mba . Furthermore, the two schools are launching a Sustainable Business Challenge in fall 2021, and are currently developing a Sustainable MBA program. The current search seeks a candidate who specializes in sustainable business management, who will be appointed jointly to the School of Environmental Sustainability (75%) and the Quinlan Department of Management (25%).

LUC has transformed its campuses to meet energy, water, and waste efficiencies that have consistently ranked the university in the top 5% of greenest U.S. campuses. Environmental Sustainability is a new interdisciplinary school that serves 380 undergraduate and 70 graduate students within a state-of-the-art geo-thermally heated/cooled building complex that includes a greenhouse, aquaponics facilities, a biodiesel production facility, teaching and research labs, and a ‘green’ dormitory. Quinlan is housed in an award-winning LEED certified building in LUC’s downtown Chicago campus. The university prioritizes sustainability with 13 energy efficient LEED certified buildings, permeable pavement, green roof installations, and student-run urban gardens supplying the LUC Farmer’s Market.

The successful candidate is expected to develop a nationally renowned research program in sustainable business that leads to high quality journal publications with a focus on sustainability management, circular economy and corporate social responsibility. Teaching responsibilities shall include undergraduate courses in environmental sustainability and management, including Sustainable Business Management and Industrial Ecology, as well as graduate courses that contribute to the five-year dual degree programs: Environmental Science/ MBA and Environmental Studies/ MBA, and the proposed Sustainable MBA . Furthermore, the successful candidate will advise students enrolled in the Sustainability Management minor, and is expected to collaborate with faculty in interdisciplinary research, strengthen connections across the School of Environmental Sustainability and Quinlan, and secure external funding. Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a PhD or DBA in a business-relevant field such as, but not limited to, management, entrepreneurship, supply chains and strategy, an active research agenda on sustainable business topics, and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching. Training in ecology, environmental studies, environmental science, sustainability science or related field, or a demonstrated record of working in these areas, or experience bridging environmental science and business is desirable. Experience overcoming or helping others overcome barriers to degree completion or an academic career is also desirable. The candidate must share Loyola University Chicago’s Jesuit commitment to social justice, care for our common home, and walking with the excluded, ideally evidenced through their research, teaching and/or service.
