Job Summary

The Associate Director, Athletics Operations assists in the planning, organization, and oversight of daily operations of the athletic communications. Serves as media contact for assigned sports. Writes press releases, game notes, and stories for publication. Coordinates media coverage for athletic events and maintains team and individual statistics.

Job Description

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

Assists with the intercollegiate athletics communications operations. Collaborates to create, develop, and implement communication materials that maximize fan awareness, attendance, and game atmosphere while increasing revenue for the athletics programs.

Serves as media contact for assigned sports, including the nationally-ranked women’s basketball program. Maintains positive relationships with the public, the press, and electronic media.

Maintains the athletic department website, writes press releases, game notes, and stories for publication. Ensures that data is accurate, relevant, and posted in a timely manner.

Updates social media content for assigned sports to promote FGCU athletics. Maintains team and individual statistics.

Promotes honors for outstanding athletes, coaches, and administrators. l

Assists with the recruitment, hiring, and training of professional and OPS staff that assist in carrying out the goals and objectives of the functional area. Assists in the development and implementation of policies, procedures to ensure effective operations.

Assists in the development of operating budgets, purchasing, and inventory control.

Complies with all University, ASUN or CCSA (Coastal Collegiate Sports Association) regulations, as well as all NCAA rules and regulations. Remains current with all changes in NCAA, as well as changes to University, ASUN and CCSA rules and regulations regarding intercollegiate athletics. This includes the requirement for self-reporting any possible rule violations and participation in the annual NCAA continuing education programs including passing the NCAA certification test, if applicable. Any violation of NCAA rules is prohibited and may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a related field.

Four years of full-time professional experience in a higher education athletics department related to the position.

Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications will be considered.

Experience operating a personal computer and proficient in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a related field.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics and NCAA rules and compliance as it pertains to media and publicity at the Division I level.

Knowledge of marketing principles and design concepts.

Knowledge of the various social media platforms.

Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects with minimal supervision.

Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies and procedures consistently.

Ability and willingness to assume new responsibilities.

Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations when numerous and diverse demands are involved.

Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.

Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative relationships with both internal and external constituencies.

Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.

Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

Salary Range: $44,000 annually
