Position Summary


The Facility Support Worker I position handles office moves, furniture moves, and event setups. This position will respond to requests involving hanging pictures, assembling and disassembling office furniture, installing and repairing paper towel and soap dispensers. This role may also assist with painting projects by prepping work surfaces. This position will be on-call for emergency clean-up and snow removal.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Facilities Support

Moves office and conference room furniture, such as desks, chairs, cabinets, bookcases, etc. within rooms, between buildings, regional learning centers, and campuses. Replaces, removes, or reorganizes classroom and lobby furnishings on campus and at off-campus sites. May operate forklift to move and relocate heavy furnishings or equipment. Moves items, such as stage equipment, tables, and chairs in support of event set-ups for campus meetings, classroom activities, public events, or conferences. Enters, fulfills, and submits completed work orders accurately and in a timely manner.

Assembles and disassembles office furniture to manufacturer specifications including, but not limited to work stations, tables, desks, bookcases, shelves, filing cabinets, and chairs. Hangs coat racks, banners, shelves, mirrors, clocks, bulletin boards, blackboards, and pictures according to customer’s requests and ADA specifications. Conducts regular and routine building upkeep duties to include, but not limited to changing clock and dispenser batteries, resetting clocks, installing and repairing paper towel and soap dispensers.

May assist with paint projects by prepping work surfaces and areas, taping, placing drop cloths, and helping with resets and clean-up.

Environmental Cleaning Support & Snow Removal Operations

Performs minor cleaning tasks, if necessary. Sweeps, dusts, mops floors, and empties trash. Operates carpet cleaner and spot-cleans carpet. Dusts and polishes furniture, woodwork, and other fixtures. Uses various cleaning agents. Performs external leaf removal within 25ft of assigned building entrances. Ensures cleanliness and appearance of facilities by monitoring classrooms, offices, lobbies, restrooms, and secured administrative areas. Reports all issues to Facilities support Supervisor. Locates and removes any inappropriate markings, stickers, decals, advertisement, or graffiti.

Performs safe clean-up, removal, and disposal of blood-borne pathogens and other infections or hazardous materials. Responds and performs emergency flood cleanup. Participates in snow removal, as assigned. Utilizes shovels, snow blowers, tractors, salt spreaders, and trucks for snow removal. Cleans walkways, stairs, parking lots, and roadways of snow and ice. Applies salt, calcium, and sand to various areas to melt ice and provide safe conditions.

Assists Police Department during building evacuations and emergencies.

Other Duties & Responsibilities

Performs other duties as assigned. Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required. Attends all required department meetings and training. Works overtime, as required to meet workload demands.

Employee occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions


Normal working conditions with occasional exposure to dirt, dust, debris and odors. Employee is occasionally exposed to wet, humid or other outdoor weather conditions. The employee regularly experiences exposure to minor cuts, burns or other situations that may cause injury. Occasional risk of electrical shock. Employee occasionally works near moving parts or in high, precarious places. Employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic materials and blood borne pathogens. Employee may be exposed to loud noises.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of : standard practices in facilities support; use of tools necessary to perform assigned tasks; common safety methods including use of personal protective equipment.

Skilled in : Verbal and written communications; Microsoft office.

Ability to : work independently; develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors, job contacts, and general public; analyze processes and make recommendations for improvement; maintain accurate and complete work records.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED. One (1) year experience performing facilities support services. An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework and experience may qualify a candidate. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
