Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Associate Vice President (AVP) for Strategic Student Support Programs, the incumbent is responsible for helping to coordinate and carry out programs along with fiscal operations and general student services support within the PRIDE Center. In conjunction with the AVP, they also help schedule space within the Center. This position represents the Center on appropriate committees as needed.

The incumbent is responsible for the coordination of day-to-day operations of the PRIDE Center. This position provides essential leadership to the student assistants employed in the Center and is also responsible for the development and functioning of programs, management of the Center's budget, and oversight of the space.

FLSA: Exempt

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,304 - $6,120 per month

Hiring Range:

Salary Grade/Range: Grade 1/Range A

Recruitment Type: Regular

Time Base: Full-Time

Pay Plan: If other than 12 months

Work Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00am-5:00pm, hours may vary depending on department needs. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

The PRIDE Center provides students looking for a connection to campus with programs and events, access to resources on campus and in the community, a welcoming hangout space, and opportunities for education about LGBTQIA communities and the intersections of many identities and experiences.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge and Abilities:
Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of the program to which assigned; general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management. General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principles of individual and group behavior.

Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason logically; collect compile analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentation based on these data; advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required; recognize multicultural, multisexed and multi-aged value systems and work accordingly; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts; and, rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas Services Office.

Possession of these knowledge and abilities typically is demonstrated through the Experience requirements below.
Experience:

Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.

Education:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Required Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Working knowledge of the activities associated with providing service and support for all students in an LGBTQ+ (PRIDE) Center, including knowledge of diversity and social justice issues.
2. Familiarity with LGBTQ+ identity development theory and issues confronting LGBTQ+ students in higher education.
3. Ability to work and collaborate with students, staff and faculty from diverse racial, cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
4. Demonstrated ability to supervise and coordinate the work of student assistants and volunteers.
5. Ability to work independently and possess self-direction skills to be able to initiate plans, organize, prioritize, multi-task, and coordinate work in a fast-paced organization.
6. Working knowledge of basic accounting principles and financial recordkeeping procedures necessary to monitor and reconcile accounts.
7. Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to compose, draft and edit correspondence, reports, notices and conference announcements.
8. Ability to advise students on sensitive issues.
9. Ability to train others on new skills and procedures and provide lead work direction.
10. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
11. Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office programs Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications

12. Master's degree in related field.
13. At least two years of experience working with student services, student group advising, and/or supporting diversity programs in a university environment.
14. Ability to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers and the community regarding event planning, record keeping, facility use, and maintenance needs.
15. Knowledge of General Education in the California State University system.
