The Johns Hopkins Center for American Indian Health (Center) has a mission to work in partnership with American Indian tribes to raise the health status and self-sufficiency of American Indian people to the highest possible level. We are seeking a Financial Analyst who will work for the Center as part of the Administrative and Financial team. This is a Baltimore based full-time position that works together with the Center’s field and Baltimore-based teams to assist in the development, coordination, and delivery of field-based public health services. This position is supervised by the Financial Manager. Under the supervision of the Financial Manager, coordinates and oversees budgeting activities related to JHU accounts including, sponsored and non-sponsored budgets such as discretionary/gifts/training accounts.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Initiates SAP transactions within all modules, AP, Supply Chain, Finance, Sponsored, and BW.
  • Coordinate setting up new vendor through Payment Works
  • Manage student’s payroll/scholarship/stipend/FWS/Volunteer Hiring
  • Prepares various paper/electronic forms such as petty cash reconciliations, journal vouchers, check deposits, invoices, Pcard transactions and shopping carts.
  • Initiate shopping cart for subawards and process invoices for payments
  • Process forms for independent contractors, contracts, and master consulting agreements
  • Manage the CAIH master salary allocation spreadsheet
  • Provide reports to the Financial Manager identifying short fall on salary support and over-expenditures and other areas of concern.
  • Advise and assist with resolving budget variances by recommending appropriate course of action
  • Ensure accurate and timely internal and external billing and receipt of payments
  • Monitor expenses monthly for center procurement cards and review procurement cards charges to ensure all charges have been reviewed and allocated before monthly deadline
  • Directly manages center non-sponsored budgets and reconciles monthly to ensure accurate expenditure of funds.
  • Clearing commitments on sponsored and non-sponsored accounts
  • Using SAP and Excel to prepare financial reports, budget projections, and analysis when requested (e.g. prepare detailed budget summaries on a monthly basis to review accounts).
  • Manages financial processes to ensure accuracy and completion and maintenance of supporting documentation.
  • Assures maintenance of mandatory documentation to support expenditures for audit purposes.
  • Assist Grants & Contracts Analysts with monitoring project end dates to ensure compliance of expenditures during project period.
  • Assist senior analyst with routine financial/administrative duties as needed.
  • Interacts within the University with occasional contact with external parties to obtain instruction and clarification, exchange and supply information, and collaborate with others to resolve administrative issues.

  • Performs a variety of related administrative and financial functions.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • 3 years of progressively responsible experience required.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of SAP and COEUS highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with University and Departmental policies and procedures.
  • Background in accounting or bookkeeping preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and the exhibited ability to create useful analyses from raw data.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience working with various office and financial software applications such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook), and the ability to operate a computer, copier, fax, and calculator is required.
  • Essential to the position is the ability to verify that transactions are allowable, allocable, and compliant with University, Federal, and Private sponsoring agency guidelines.
  • Understanding and demonstrated use of financial reporting and account reconciliation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; with the ability to communicate and work effectively with a broad cross-section of clients including: faculty, staff, students, and administration within the JHU as well as external contacts.
  • Must be collaborative with excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Must be able to set and manage multiple priorities and respond quickly to changing needs and goals.
  • Excellent organizational skills, analytical and problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail.
  • Analytical, intellectually curious and a clear thinker who can concisely summarize conclusions derived from financial analyses, an exceptional problem solver.
  • Ability to work with minimum direction and prioritize work to meet various concurrent deadlines.
  • Ability to anticipate and resolve complex problems, exercise sound judgment, and plan, organize, and prioritize multiple demands efficiently and effectively.

JHU Equivalency Formula:  30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.  Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
