Job Description

The Virginia Tech Foundation, Inc. (Foundation) was established in 1948 to receive, manage, and disburse private gifts in support of Virginia Tech programs. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation governed by its board of directors. The Foundation serves the university by generating funding from private sources and aggressively managing its assets to provide funding which supplements state appropriations. The Foundation provides additional operating support to colleges and departments, assists in the funding of major building projects, and provides seed capital for new university initiatives. The Human Resources Manager will report directly to the Associate Vice President for Administration/Controller.

Responsibilities: Plan, organize, and manage all activities of the Human Resources Office which provides services and support for 60+ employees; monitor and maintain compliance with all relevant state and federal regulations; manage the Foundation’s benefits programs; prepare and monitor Foundation salaries and benefits budgets; prepare annual reports related to leave accruals, plan assets, and 990 data; recommend, draft, and implement personnel policies and procedures; maintain employee handbook; perform benefits administration to include health, dental, life, disability, cafeteria plan, and retirement plans; maintain confidential personnel records; oversee employee payroll; conduct new-employee orientations and exit interviews; write and place job advertisements; supervise Receptionist and Human Resources Generalist; oversee business office functions including deposits of funds; perform other special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent level of training and/or experience required; candidates should have experience in multiple disciplines of human resource management such as recruiting, employee relations, compensation and benefits; strong leadership skills; excellent written and verbal communications skills; thorough understanding of employment laws, and retirement plan and payroll compliance; ability to operate under minimal supervision, prioritize work and meet deadlines, and handle sensitive issues with integrity, diplomacy and confidentiality; strong work ethic and organizational skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with payroll systems.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional human resources certification preferred.

The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check as well as documentation of COVID-19 vaccination or receive approval from the university for a vaccination exemption due to a medical condition or sincerely held religious belief.
