Job Description
The Women’s and Gender Studies program (WGS) at Virginia Tech invites applications for two three-semester Instructorship positions beginning Spring 2022 and will run through Spring 2023. Our program offers an undergraduate minor, a graduate certificate and a graduate concentration. In the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, the undergraduate WGS program is housed in the Academy of Transdisciplinary Studies (ATS), and its graduate curriculum is hosted by the Department of Sociology.
The successful candidate will participate fully in the teaching mission of the WGS program to deliver our undergraduate and graduate curriculum and to sustain cross-disciplinary, cross-departmental connections with other units on campus. The candidate will teach a graduate Feminist Research Methods course, and possibly Women and Creativity and Introduction to WGS.
We seek dynamic and collaborative candidates who demonstrate excellent evidence of teaching and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Candidates should be prepared to teach in person as well as using online modalities.
The ATS is an innovative and highly interdisciplinary Academy that is creating a slate of new interdisciplinary minors and majors including Asian American studies, Latino/a/x studies, Queer studies, Food Studies and Animal Studies. It also houses established programs in WGS, Africana Studies, and American Indian Studies.
The Sociology Department is recognized for excellence in research, teaching, and community outreach. We specialize in sociology and criminology with concentrations in Africana Studies, Women's and Gender Studies, Inequality, Research Methods, and a minor in Peace Studies.
