St. Mary’s College of Maryland at Historic St. Mary’s City is accepting résumés for the position of Development Officer – Major Gifts.  The Development Officer - Major Gifts is responsible for soliciting, cultivating and stewarding major gift donors to St. Mary’s College of Maryland. The position will be regional (remote), with a preference for the greater Baltimore/Washington DC area, and will fundraise regionally and nationally on behalf of the College. The position helps develop and actively manages a portfolio with a minimum of 100+ major gift prospects/donors (rated $10,000+). Position will assist the Development Unit’s planned giving strategies and guiding planned giving.

Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred; minimum of five years of experience in fundraising in a nonprofit, higher education or comparable setting; and must have demonstrable experience in soliciting and securing major gifts, including planned gifts. The candidate must be highly organized, a strong communicator, willing to travel, and demonstrate a proven ability to meet deadlines and metrics. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Experience with development databases like Raiser’s Edge is a plus. Above all, the candidate must have a passion for soliciting gifts that have impact and meaning to both the benefactor and the recipient(s). Any combination of acceptable education and experience, which has provided the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfill the requirements of this position, may be considered.  Employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check and proof of COVID-19 vaccination, medical and religious exemptions will be considered.
