Currently, this position is both on-ground and online as we continue to face the challenges of COVID. In the future, without COVID concerns, the schedule will be on ground in the Hartford/New Britain area until the office is permanently relocated in New Britain CT.

Position Summary:

Under supervision of the Payroll Coordinator, the Assistant P a yroll Coordinator provides staff training and assists with all aspect s of Payroll. The Assistant Payroll Coordinator will also help to ensure a successful Shared Service model for Payroll is implemented and maintained in support of the One-College System consisting of twelve (12) campus locations.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance , or business administration required .
  • Three (3) years progres s ive experience in Payroll with a minimum of three (3) years of progressively more responsible experience in the development and implementation of effecti v e computerized payroll, fiscal and administrative systems.
  • Ability to prepare and interpret analytical reports using tools such as the Microsoft Office Suite and other PC based reporting packages.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • State payroll experience preferred
Example of Job Duties:

Provides staff training and assists in oversight of the Payroll area.

Responsible for verifying and correcting input/output data into the Hum a n Resources / Payroll System .

Assists the Payroll Coordinator in running and checking the processes required to electronically transmit the CSCU ' s payroll to Central Payroll at the State Comptroller ' s Office.

Develops and guides staff procedures to ensure the accurate and efficient calculation and recording of student payroll, lecturer' s payroll; shift and overtime differentials; honorarium and grant payments; retirement, retroactive and other non-regular pay; tax s helter, credit union, health and other deductions; worker's compensation claims; medical certific a tes; and garnishments.

Accesses the Payroll and Human Resources modules using datab a se query languages to generate ad hoc reports and extracts of personal service information for One-College and System Office reporting and management requirements.

Collaborates closely with the CSCU's Human Resource Department, fiscal officers, various State agencies and the Board of R e g e nts ; recommends and helps develop improvements to optimize payroll s erv ices to the One-College and System Office .

Responsible for ongoing interpretation of policy, creates procedures , processes monthly accrual, and maintains sick leave balances as it relates to Public act 11-52.

Responsible for accurately interpreting financial/accounting transactions as it relates to payroll for the purpose of reclassifying various payroll accounts; reconciles Core and Banner payroll systems; reconciles the financial feed journal entry; and researches and reclassifies suspense account.

Perform other related duties which do not alter the basic level o f responsibility of the position.

Starting Salary:

$58,422-$77,447 (midpoint) approximate annual plus excellent State of CT medical insurance, retirement, and related fringe benefits.
