Job Description

The W. P. Carey School of Business, Undergraduate Programs Office is looking for a professional, self-motivated individual to join our leadership team. Under guidance from the Director, this person will initiate, plan, and coordinate academic advising, retention, and student services for Business students at the West Campus. The West Campus Academic Success Advising Coordinator will oversee day-to-day operations which includes the supervision of advising professional staff members and student workers. This position will play an active role in creating a sense of community among W. P. Carey students as well as building and maintaining close partnerships with colleges and departments internal and external to W. P. Carey. 

DAYS AND SCHEDULE: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM; M-F; some evenings and weekends as needed.

Essential Duties

  • Coordinates undergraduate academic advising efforts for business students at the West Campus
  • Serves as a professional academic advisor for the W. P. Carey School of Business, maintaining a caseload of undergraduate students.
  • Works with students both one-on-one and in group/class settings, in-person and via phone, e-mail and technological systems
  • Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates Academic Success Advisor(s), Student Support Specialist(s), and student workers at the West Campus
  • Compiles academic reports and research data related to enrollment, critical tracking, retention and graduation 
  • Proactively monitors student academic progress through a variety of reporting tools including eAdvisor, ASU Dashboards, Salesforce, PeopleSoft and DARS. Utilizes these tools as well as phone outreach to provide academic options, course selection and registration
  • Establishes and maintains strong connections with college/department partnerships in which we have concentrations regarding curriculum needs/concerns and potential engagement and academic opportunities for students, etc.
  • Focuses on retention efforts and degree completion of business students; work with Business Career Center and Engagement teams to develop intentional programming and identify creative solutions, as needed
  • Assists with the plans, development, implementation, and assessment of the academic services, policies, and procedures to meet the goals and objectives of the School and University
  • Other duties as assigned

Additional Expectations:

  • Ability to manage higher workloads during peak cycles, problems solving, prioritizing and multi-tasking 
  • Assist training new staff
  • Facilitate WPC 101 
  • Giving presentations (Orientation, Advising Workshops, WPC 101, etc.)
  • Contribute to the team through feedback regarding best practices, policy and procedure (ex. lead a committee)
  • Actively participate and support WPC and West Campus Events, Student Engagement sponsored activities, Internal Committees as needed, and CAA

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in a related field and two (2) years or more of the following: advising or related student services utilizing a proactive and innovative approach which results in demonstrated outcomes in Academic Success Advising Coordinator retention, graduation, and academic planning; Or, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Evidence of customer service skills; team work
  • Evidence of effective communication skills
  • Demonstrated use of problem solving skills; critical thinking; time management skills; and having to rapidly adapt and effectively utilize new technology, practices and policies
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with peers, faculty, students, administration and others
  • Organizational experience while prioritizing multiple tasks in a fast-paced and service-focused environment; detail-oriented
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ASU academic structure and organization
  • Experience analyzing and creating reports in excel 
  • Experience retrieving and synthesizing data through Salesforce and ASU Analytics
  • Experience using: Student information computer system (i.e., PeopleSoft, DARS, Dashboard, etc.)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and/or PowerPoint)

Working Environment

Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking. Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer; bending, stooping, reaching, lifting and pushing objects of varying weights up to 50 pounds. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential duties. May include exposure to external environment/climate conditions including walking on uneven surfaces, climbing and high temperatures.
