POSITION SUMMARY:  The Title IX Coordinator and Clery Officer at Pomona College has primary responsibility for overseeing the College’s Title IX efforts, and serves as a central resource for all constituencies on the wide range of issues addressed by Title IX and the Clery Act, including, but not limited to, sexual harassment, sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking, and hazing.  This position has responsibility for overseeing the College’s compliance, training, and education related Clery Act matters.  As Title IX Coordinator/Clery Officer and Associate Dean, this person is in a leadership position to contribute to enhancing the culture of diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence at the College. 

 

The Title IX Coordinator and Clery Officer directs the work of the CARES (Campus Advocacy Resources Education and Support) program by providing supervision and support to the Assistant Director of CARES. The CARES Office is also home to two student leadership programs, the Peer Educators and the Project Sister Campus Advocates. The CARES Assistant Director is responsible for direct oversight of these programs with support from the Title IX Coordinator. The Project Sister Campus Advocates are a program of a local rape crisis center, Project Sister Family Services. The Title IX Coordinator and CARES Assistant Director work in close partnership with the Director and the Hotline Supervisor at Project Sister. The CARES Assistant Director co-chairs the consortium-wide Campus Coordinated Response Team with the TCCS Clery Officer at Campus Safety. The Title IX Coordinator provides support and guidance for the CARES Assistant Director

 

This position leads the work of the Deputy Title IX Coordinators in matters related to Title IX, collaborates closely with faculty, staff, and students, as well as with colleagues across The Claremont Colleges.  This position provides the long-term vision for the continuing purpose, scope and work of Title IX, gender equity, and civil rights at the College.  Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students, and as a core member of the Student Affairs leadership team, the Associate Dean is also directly involved in providing guidance on community education initiatives, student development, and diversity and inclusion efforts across the College.  The different facets of the role complement each other as they involve strategic advancement of the College’s collective efforts to build and maintain a safer, more inclusive, and more equitable campus climate.

In addition to collaborating with colleagues across all levels and divisions of the College, the College Title IX Coordinator/Clery Officer will partner most closely with the following individuals:

  • External investigators as well as internally-trained investigators – with this person overseeing the training of such investigators

  • Legal counsel for Pomona College

  • Deputy Title IX Coordinators, affiliated with the following areas:

  • Student Affairs,

  • Human Resources,

  • Dean of the College/Academic Affairs, and Athletics

  • The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) Title IX Administrator

  • Project Sister Family Services, and the Project Sister Campus Advocates at Pomona College

  • Director of the EmPOWER Center and Project Sister counselors at the EmPOWER Center

  • Teal Dot Committee of The Claremont Colleges

  • Campus Coordinated Response Team of The Claremont Colleges

  • Residence Life staff and On-Call team

  • The CORE Blueprint Committee at Pomona College (serve as chair)

  • Title IX coordinators and Clery coordinators of the other Claremont Colleges

  • Clery Act Coordinator and Campus Safety Director of the Claremont University Consortium

  • Associate Dean of the College/Diversity Officer

  • Assistant Vice President, Human Resources/Diversity Officer

  • Management Team of the Student Affairs Division

 

Reporting directly to the Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students, the College Title IX Coordinator and Clery Officer and Associate Dean works independently and collaboratively to perform the following essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Leading efforts across all divisions of the College to ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements as they relate to Title IX laws and regulations, as well as related federal and state laws;

  • Oversight of college‐wide education, training, and outreach programming related to Title IX, sexual violence and sexual harassment prevention as provided the Title IX Coordinator, other colleagues at Pomona and by outside experts;

  • Serving as one of the key resources for receiving reports of sexual misconduct and harassment complaints;

  • Coordinating, conducting and ensuring the completion of the College’s response, investigation, and resolution of complaints of potential violations of College policy pursuant to Title IX and other state and federal laws, including sexual harassment and sexual misconduct as well as other forms of gender‐based discrimination, harassment and inequity;

  • Coordinating and ensuring the timely completion of the College’s Clery Act responsibilities and annual reporting; as well as other relevant or related federal and state compliance and/or reporting responsibilities;

  • Maintaining accurate, timely, and compliant records for all Title IX, sexual harassment (including sexual violence), and Clery-related complaints, investigations, processes, and appeals;

  • Advancing the mission of the College to ensure access and success for all members of the Pomona College Community;

  • Oversee the College’s sexual misconduct, harassment and discrimination policies and procedures, the centralized review, investigation, resolution, and tracking of reports of sexual assault and harassment and gender‐based inequity;

  • Oversee the consistency, quality, and scheduling of training, education, and outreach programming related to Title IX the Clery Act, and related federal and state requirements by partnering with colleagues across campus and the other Claremont Colleges;

  • Stay abreast of national trends related to as well as changes within Title IX, the Clery Act, and related state and federal laws and regulations; monitor the College’s policies and procedures accordingly; collaborate in revisions of College policy; and participate in reviews of other civil rights compliance issues affecting students at the College, including ADA-related issues, as needed;

  • Be available to advise any individual, including a complainant, a respondent, or a third party, about the courses of action available at the College;

  • Be available to provide assistance to any College community member regarding how to respond appropriately to reports of sexual violence and harassment;

  • Work closely with colleagues across campus to ensure clear, accurate, and consistent communications around Title IX the Clery Act, and related federal and state requirements;

  • Coordinate with the Director and Hotline Supervisor at Project Sister Family Services, the supervision and support of the Project Sister Campus Advocates at Pomona College, their training, supervision, scope of services, and logistics;

  • Assess the effectiveness of the College’s efforts to prevent and respond to gender‐based violence and harassment by collecting data and analyzing trends;

  • Provide updates to the Board of Trustees, the President, the Vice Presidents in relevant areas, and other senior administrators regarding the effectiveness of the College’s Title

    • IX and Clery Act compliance efforts;

  • Participate in the strategic vision around the topics of inclusion, support, and responsiveness across campus;

  • Serve as one of the College’s Diversity Officers and work collaboratively and proactively with other College Diversity Officers, and campus and community partners to ensure the campus climate is equitable, safe, and welcoming for all members of the Pomona College community.

  • Serve on the Management Team of the Student Affairs Division, and;

  • Establish and Chair the Pomona College Clery Coordinating Committee.

  • Coordinate special projects/tasks and provide assistance as assigned.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree. Juris doctorate or advanced degree in a relevant discipline preferred.  A valid driver’s license or equivalent means of reliable transportation to off-site meetings and events is required.  A minimum of 5 years of experience in relevant field. Experience in higher education is strongly preferred.

 

ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS: Regular full-time exempt position.  Starting pay rate: $120,354 per year.

 

REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this full time position are between 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday.  Holiday, weekend and evening work hours will be required.  Travel will be required.  Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division.
