Position Summary:

The Teacher Advisor assists the administrative and instructional staff in implementing and delivering student services to the cohort of students in the grant program to facilitate academic, cultural, and social enrichment activities. This position is designed to provide mentoring services to the Waterbury Public Schools grant cohort participants during the school day as well as in after-school programs in Math, English, and Science. Incumbents must possess a proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.)

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate’s degree in an appropriately related field together with one (1) to three (3) years of experience; or a combination of education, training, and experience which would lead to the competencies required for the successful performance of the position’s essential duties.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual in Spanish and or Albanian
  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience with middle and or high school students in a diverse environment: experience with school counseling, community work, or social agencies
Example of Job Duties:

Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Site Coordinator, The Upward Bound Teacher Advisor Educational Assistant is responsible for the following duties.

  • Collaboration and communication with Site Coordinator and other Teacher Advisors
  • Collaboration with content area teachers and Guidance Department
  • Small group mentoring sessions throughout the day
  • Development of mentoring outcomes
  • Data input, review, and analysis of items such as daily and weekly logs of mentoring sessions with student names and objectives
  • Coordination of after-school mentors/tutors.

Starting Salary:

$27.76 hourly.
