POSITION SUMMARY:
The Child Development Substitute Assistant Teacher assists and participates in teaching, protecting, and providing care for pre-school children in a Community College child development center. Tunxis Community College child development center provides child care, child development, nutrition, and related services for the pre-school children of students, staff, and citizens of the community.
Community College Professionals and Faculty are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.)
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field; or a combination of education, training, and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties.
The successful candidate must have experience, knowledge, and abilities in the following:
- Early childhood education.
- Child development and learning principles and applications.
- Child protection and care.

PREFERRED
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two (2) years of related experience working with preschool children and child development.
- Experience interacting with parents, children, student teachers, and staff.
EXAMPLE OF JOB DUTIES:
Under the supervision of the Director of Child Development Center, the Child Development Substitute Assistant Teacher will be responsible for contributing to the development, protection, and care of children enrolled in the College’s Child Development Center through effective performance in these essential functional areas: Contributing to the learning and safety of assigned children in the College’s Child Development Center; providing useful information to parents on their children’s progress; and contributing to the operation of the Child Development Center.
This posting includes qualifications, experience, and skills but is not limited to the full specifications stated in the collective bargaining unit contract.
STARTING WAGE:
$27.76 per hour
