The Department of Philosophy at Denison University invites
applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position
beginning in August 2022. The successful candidate will be an
exemplary teacher, committed to active philosophical engagement
with students, and a broadly trained philosopher with expertise in
the philosophy of law. They will complement a small, but
pluralistic department with a tradition of excellence both in
undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts context and in active and
rigorous scholarship. We are looking to diversify our faculty and
curriculum without replicating current areas of departmental
expertise. Candidates will teach a two-three course load across all
levels of the curriculum and regularly at the introductory level.
They will have opportunities to develop new courses in their areas
of interest and collaborate with other departments and programs at
Denison. Candidates are required to have by start date a Ph.D. in
Philosophy. (ABD will be considered as Instructor until Ph.D.
is attained). Evidence of excellent teaching at the undergraduate
level is a necessary condition for appointment. Candidates from
historically underrepresented groups in the profession are
especially encouraged to apply.
Dossiers should include a letter of application addressing the
candidate’s potential contributions to the mission of the
department (no longer than 2 pages), CV, three letters of
recommendation, graduate school transcripts, evidence of successful
teaching, and a writing sample. For information about the
department, see denison.edu. Applications should be
submitted to: https://employment.denison.edu/postings/3340.
Review of applications will begin November 1st. Position open until
filled.
