Position Summary:
The Writing Center EA performs a variety of operations and administrative tasks in line with the vision of the academic support services programs at the five community Colleges within the Capital-East region, which has open enrollment and offers degree and certificate programs in a broad range of liberal arts, transfer, occupational, and career studies.
Incumbents must possess a proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.)
Minimum Qualifications:
An Associate’s Degree in an appropriately related field
Successful Candidate must have or must possess:
- Tutoring experience in a college or university setting
- Familiarity with typical writing assignments from across the curriculum (research essays, response papers, literary analysis, etc.)
- Experience working with a diverse range of students with various levels of writing ability
- Experience working with students from a range of ethnic and linguistic background
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite and other common platforms (web browsers, LMS, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience working in a writing center at an accredited college or university
- Experience working with faculty and staff members in different departments or divisions
- Ability to provide academic support via video conferencing platforms
- Prior experience using the TutorTrac platform and Blackboard LMS
Under the direction of the Writing Center Coordinator, the Writing Center EA will assist in providing consistent academic support in writing to the diverse student body of TRCC by effective performance in these essential areas: Providing one-on-one or group tutoring in writing across the curriculum; providing one-on-one or group tutoring to ESL/ELL students if assigned. providing academic support in writing through embedded classroom assignments as needed; maintaining attendance records for students via tutoring center scheduling application; maintaining a regular schedule of hours during the semester that may include early morning, evening, and weekend assignments; and liaising with teaching faculty and staff members as needed to facilitate academic support efforts.
The Writing Center EA must be able to work flexible schedules as required by class assignments and program needs with adjustments made to their schedule to stay within the maximum 17hrs/week schedule.
