Pratt Institute is seeking an Operations Manager who is a creative problem-solver with excellent communication and organizational skills to support the efforts of the Fine Arts Department by providing safe, efficient, and well-maintained facilities, including managing a staff of eight technicians. The successful candidate will have hands-on experience in woodworking and metalworking and will oversee all Fine Arts shops and studios including Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Jewelry, Ceramics, and Printmaking facilities, to ensure that best practices are implemented and followed. If you can demonstrate the ability to successfully manage shops and studios, have experience handling budgets, and supervising staff in a university-level workshop environment, then we want to hear from you!

Key Essential Duties include the following:
  • Ensure that technicians train students and faculty on the proper use of equipment
  • Liaise with Facilities and technicians on capital budgets, projects, and equipment upgrades
  • Manage shop operating and student worker budgets
  • Coordinate development of digital-fabrication equipment/facilities
  • Oversee materials and equipment purchasing
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance and repair schedules
  • Supervise and support Fine Arts technicians
  • Work with technicians to hire undergraduate and graduate students for work-study, student work, and graduate assistantship positions
  • Create schedules for student employment, approve timesheets and manage timesheet issues on the student employment website
