Teaching Fellows Program Director and Manhattan Educational Program Director

JOB SUMMARY:

Oversees the Teaching Fellows Program in collaboration with the New York City Department of Education; collaborates with program recruitment and marketing initiatives in conjunction with the New York City Department of Education personnel; supervises field experience positions and mentors University Field Supervisors; provides comprehensive program advisement and support to Teaching Fellows; and, represents Adelphi for communications with New York City. Liaises with the CEHS Assessment Office for CAEP accreditation report.

REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Student Success

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
  1. Oversees the function and operations of the New York City Department of Education Teaching Fellows program at the university level.
  2. Communicates regularly with the New York City Department of Education on Teaching Fellows related matters.
  3. Advises and provides extracurricular support to the Teaching Fellows.
  4. Manages field experience supervision, visits school sites, and supports University Mentors of the Teaching Fellows.
  5. Teach courses within the Teaching Fellows program.
  6. Supervises the staff for Transitional B (alternative certification) data entry, reporting, and accuracy.
  7. Works with the Department Chair, Program Directors, and Faculty to collaborate on curriculum-related matters.
  8. Assists with data collection for the Teaching Fellows program, including transition checkpoints and program completion data for CAEP accreditation.
  9. Leads the CEHS efforts to facilitate and recruit culturally and historically underrepresented populations of the teaching profession in the New York City area.
  10. Liaises with the New York Department of Education for timely tuition payments and grant funding to Adelphi University.
  11. Serves as a liaison between UCOMM, University Admissions (graduate), Office of the Registrar, Office of Academic Services.
  12. Liaise with the CEHS Office of Student Success to facilitate and follow proper procedures.
  13. Assists the Dean with outreach efforts in the New York Metropolitan area to increase community engagement and enhance reputation.
  14. Provides necessary updates to the New York City Department of Education Teaching Fellows upon request.

REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, skills and abilities)
  1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  2. Knowledge of teacher education programs.
  3. Understanding of the NYC schools and their needs.
  4. Ability to be organized and pay attention to detail.
  5. Ability to prioritize.
  6. Strong interpersonal skills.
  7. Strong computer skills; Word, Excel and Email; database management in SLATE, CLASS or equivalent.
  8. Knowledge of current NYSED regulations and alternative teacher certification requirements.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Bachelor's degree in education or a related field is required.
  2. Master's degree in education or a related field is preferred.
  3. Two years of job-related experience required; for example in a public school setting or in higher education.
  4. Knowledge of best practices in marketing and recruitment in higher education.
