The University of Texas at Austin, Department of Curriculum and Instruction seeks applicants for a tenure-track, Open Rank position in our STEM Education program beginning Fall 2022. This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-line appointment. Our vision in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and the College of Education is to build upon individual, family, and community strengths in order to combat disparities in education and health and to promote social justice. Applicants are expected to have or show potential for a track record of research excellence, including a strong record of refereed publications and a history of extramural funding and/or potential to obtain extramural funding. Applicants should also have a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring with a focus on enhancing equity and inclusion in the field and in practice.

We seek a talented scholar to join a faculty committed to promoting equity in STEM education through research, teaching and service. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary inquiries, classroom-based research, teacher education research, and pre-service teacher program development. It also provides numerous opportunities to develop collaborative projects with individuals involved in all aspects of K-16 STEM education. The successful candidates will join an active STEM Education faculty with a strong commitment to promoting equity in STEM education.

In addition to the College of Education, the STEM Education program has strong ties to the College of Natural Sciences and the Cockrell School of Engineering. Many of the faculty in the STEM Education program are also affiliated with the UTeach program. The STEM Education program currently serves over 50 full-time graduate students.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications for All Candidates

• An earned doctorate in Elementary Education, STEM Education, Mathematics Education, Computer Science Education, Learning Sciences, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field.
• A demonstrated commitment to equity in STEM education as evidenced by past or current research, teaching, and service activities.
• A research agenda that centers equity in at least one of the following areas (in order of preference):
  - Math education
  - Computer science education
• Ability to teach graduate level courses in STEM Education (see list of courses in the STEM Education Master's and Ph.D. degree programs) and undergraduate courses in elementary mathematics methods (which is a course in the Applied Learning and Development certification program) or secondary STEM Education (see list of courses in the UTeach program).
• Demonstrated excellence or potential for excellence in research.

Preferred Qualifications for All Candidates

• An externally fundable research agenda in STEM Education.
• Mathematics or Computer Science teaching experience in K-12 classrooms.
• Ability to teach quantitative research methods courses.
• Experience or interest in conducting research in K-12 classrooms.
• Experience or interest in building researcher-practitioner partnerships with schools and communities.

Additional Required Qualifications for the Position of Associate or Full Professor

• Demonstrated an established active record of research, teaching and service to meet the University's requirements for tenure at the appropriate rank.
• Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds, and advancing the College's mission of equity and excellence.
• Demonstrated record of leadership at the regional, state, and national levels.
• Demonstrated record of chairing and advising graduate students.
• Demonstrated record of leadership at department, college, and university levels.

Additional Preferred Qualifications for the Position of Associate or Full Professor

• Demonstrated record of mentoring junior faculty peers.
• Experience with interdisciplinary collaborative research.
• Demonstrated record of leadership in (inter)national professional organizations.
