The Department of Biochemistry at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) invites applications for a tenure-track 9-month appointment (academic year) faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position is part of a strategic growth plan by the Biochemistry Department and the Nebraska Center for the Prevention of Obesity Diseases (NPOD), which is a NIH-funded Center of Biomedical Research Excellence at UNL. Applicants are sought who will develop a vigorous research program in the area of lipid metabolism, adipocyte biology or lipid-based signaling, with linkages to mitochondria biology, cell-cell and inter-organelle communication, or immunometabolic responses.

Recognizing that diversity within a context of inclusivity enhances creativity, innovation, impact, and a sense of belonging, the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the Department of Biochemistry are committed to creating learning, research, and work environments that are inclusive of all forms of human diversity. We actively encourage applications from and nominations of individuals from underrepresented groups.

Required qualifications include a Ph.D. or equivalent in biochemistry, biophysics, chemistry, cell biology, physiology, microbiology or molecular biology; two or more years of postdoctoral experience; and a strong record of original research as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications.

Preferred qualifications include experience in grant writing, teaching in biochemistry or related fields, mentoring students, excellent communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively.

The successful candidate will establish an externally supported research program that is nationally/internationally recognized and advances current knowledge in areas of lipid metabolism and signaling, nutritional biochemistry, and environmental and genetic risk factors and the mechanisms behind obesity and relevant human diseases. The incumbent will also provide expertise to the educational mission of the Department of Biochemistry and the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources by contributing to the teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses in biochemistry and lipid metabolism.

The university offers a highly collaborative environment to develop biomedical focused research programs with affiliated resources provided by the University Research Centers (NPOD, Redox Biology, Biotechnology, Virology, Integrated Biomolecular Communication, and Plant Science Innovation), Computational Sciences Initiative, NIH-funded graduate training program-Molecular Mechanisms of Disease, Nebraska Innovation Campus, and the University of Nebraska Medical Center.  University research facilities, such as the NPOD Biomedical and Obesity Research Core, support biomedical and obesity research, metabolomics, genomics, and computational approaches, modern biophysical and biochemical methodologies, and enzyme structure/function, and metabolic engineering. A competitive start-up package and appropriate laboratory and office space will be offered.
