Reporting to the Executive Director of Alumnae Relations, the Director of Alumnae Relations acts as trusted counsel to the Executive Director as well as a conduit for the implementation of their vision. In coordination with the Executive Director, the Director helps to guide the strategic planning for, and implementation of, Barnard's alumnae engagement activities in the United States and abroad, as well in the management and development of members of the alumnae relations team. The primary goal of the alumnae relations program is to strengthen connections between alumnae and the College - including Barnard's students, faculty, and administration - in order to increase both engagement and participation.

Additional Information: This job is primarily performed remotely, but will require a presence in the office for team and full staff meetings and other times as directed by the supervisor.

Position Summary Information

Essential Duties Summary
  1. Serve as a strong general manager and deputy to the Executive Director, leading the entire team in the Executive Director's absence. The Director directly supervises key members of the Alumnae Relations team including: two Associate Directors responsible for regional clubs, and young alumnae and student engagement/shared interest groups, as well as a part-time Associate Director responsible for select Alumnae Association of Barnard College ( AABC ) committees and shared interest groups. Each member of the professional staff also manages multiple reunion classes.
  2. Provide leadership and support to the Alumnae Circles program, regional groups and alumnae leadership throughout the United States and abroad, to young alumnae, class officers, and other affiliated alumnae networks and constituencies. Assist various alumnae groups as needed in the development and implementation of programs and services that will benefit both alumnae and the College. Proactively and routinely lead the alumnae relations team to assess existing programs and develop new programs that can engage and inspire alumnae in more diverse and innovative ways.
  3. Work with the Executive Director to develop, implement, and coordinate other programs to provide a continuing education service to alumnae (i.e., the auditing program, the alumnae travel program,).
  4. In coordination with the Executive Director and the Director, Annual Giving, work to help support efforts to increase alumnae participation financially.
  5. Collaborate with the Executive Director of Alumnae Relations and the Development and Alumnae Communications team to ensure all communications support both alumnae relations and development goals, with a clear focus on increasing alumnae engagement and participation.
  6. Partner with the Executive Director of Alumnae Relations to define the key metrics for alumnae engagement, oversee the collection of and analysis of data, evaluate program success, and employ data-based decision making to strengthen the College's Alumnae Relations efforts.
  7. Attend weekend and evening alumnae meetings and events and travel to encourage alumnae leadership and promote programs and participation.
  8. Manage select volunteer committees.
  9. Oversee management of alumnae benefits and services.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualification Summary
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience • 5 to 8 years of professional experience with progressively increasing responsibility, including 1 to 3 years' managing staff and volunteers, and a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in higher education

Preferred Qualification Summary
• Experience producing events in higher education
• Experience with strategic planning and associated metrics
• Familiarity with Salesforce, Salesforce Communities, and Blackthorn
• Master's degree
• Experience with volunteer management software


Physical Demands Summary
• Ability to perform customary office tasks such as sitting, walking, standing, computing, and answering telephone for moderate to prolonged periods of time combined with light to moderate reaching, bending and lifting.
