The Department of Educational and Psychological Studies, University of Miami (UM) School of Education and Human Development (SEHD), is searching for a new faculty member who specializes in quantitative methods related to social sciences and education. The position will be appointed within the Research, Measurement, and Evaluation (RME) graduate program.

 

This open rank position will be filled based on finding the best available candidate with the greatest potential for continuing long-term scholarship in the field of educational statistics and measurement. The area of expertise is open; however, we are especially interested in recruiting individuals whose scholarly interests and work fit within one or more of the following areas:

 

(a) Advanced statistical methods, such as Categorical data analysis, Hierarchical Linear Modeling, Longitudinal Data Analysis, Bayesian analysis, and Structural Equation Modeling.

(b) Educational measurement, such as Item Response Theory, Computer Adaptive Testing, and Cognitive Diagnostic Modeling.

(c) Large-scale data analytics, such as Social Network Analysis, Deep Learning, and Educational Data Mining.

 

This individual’s work should have the potential for obtaining extramural research funding that can support the development of a chain of inquiry as well as doctoral students who would, in their own turn, enter the academy as experts in educational statistics and measurement. In addition to an outstanding scholarship, successful candidate should commit to an excellence of teaching with an aptitude for effectively communicating and presenting complex statistical or measurement concepts.

The requirements for this position include a doctorate in educational measurement and/or statistics or a closely related field. Individuals applying for this position are expected to have potential for or an established track record in (a) scholarly research and publication, (b) graduate-level teaching, (c) mentoring of doctoral students, (d) extramural funding and (e) professional service that are in keeping with the rank for which they are being considered as per University of Miami policies for hiring of tenured or tenure-track faculty. NOTE: Only the Board of Trustees can confer tenure. 

 

The position’s duties include the implementation of a substantive long-term chain of inquiry in educational statistics and measurement; teaching undergraduate and graduate students; mentoring of doctoral students including chairing and serving on doctoral committees; service to department, school, university and external professional organizations; and extramural funding to support research. Other duties and responsibilities are as outlined in the Faculty Manual.
