The Office of Information Technology is seeking aMultimedia Technician with skillsets in audio/video content production, audio/video web conferencing technical support, and media content creation. The Multimedia Technician reports to the Multimedia Supervisor – Online Learning Content Production and works collaboratively in a team of creative media content professionals to support and produce the online learning content, virtual and in-person events, and public-facing communication initiatives for the Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Daily operations are centered around maintaining the continued operation of audio and video production facilities throughout the School (hardware and software), including web conferencing and eLearning tools such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Panopto, and more for facilitating eLearning content production.

Candidates must be skilled in the operation of current broadcast and film industry standard cameras, microphones, video switchers, audio mixing consoles, audio and video network routing matrixes, non-linear editing platforms, and digital audio workstations. Candidates must also possess a firm understanding of audio and video media assets and file management.

The Multimedia Technician provides clients at the School with pre-production, production, and post-production consult and services. Candidates must possess the skills to facilitate a client’s concept to a fully realized audio/video deliverables. The successful candidate will be a motivated, organized, detail-oriented, positive, and proactive team player who provides an excellent customer service experience for clients.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Audio / Video Event Production Support (50%)

Audio/video/event productions conducted in both studio and field environments.

  • Record and edit audio podcast, lectures, radio interviews, or any other audio production requests for the School.
  • Record, edit, and facilitate webcast video productions in lecture halls and studio for in person events at the School.
  • Offer constructive recommendations to clients and staff for changes/ enhancements to improve clarity and overall project quality.
  • Serve as secondary support for A/V Technicians.

Online Learning Content Production and Support (50%)

  • Serve as producer and technical resource to lecturers using on-line collaborative software (such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams) in support of synchronous and asynchronous online learning/eLearning content initiatives.
  • Record, monitor, and provide technical assistance of live online course content.
  • Troubleshoot basic technical issues for online remote clients during recording sessions.
  • Operate recording equipment for faculty and customer sessions when conducted in studio.
  • Generate reports documenting workflow inhibitors as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • 4 years related experience in video and audio production including editing.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in audio or video media production or equivalent experience.
  • Certification in the Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent apps.
  • Experience working in an educational environment.
  • Experience in event production and auditorium based audio/visual systems.
  • Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) certification.

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer care skills, including the ability to explain technical points clearly and simply to faculty, staff, and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds.

Technical Qualifications/Specialized Certifications:

  • Expertise in operating media hardware and software including (but not limited to):
  • Experience working on live or post-production content for broadcast TV and Radio programs.
  • Thorough understanding of industry recognized Digital Audio Workstations (Adobe Audition, Pro Tools, Logic Pro X, Reaper).
  • Familiarity with Non-linear editing programs (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve).
  • Digital studio cameras, studio lighting, microphones (wired/wireless), switchers, audio/video editing equipment, video conferencing and webcasting systems, portable audio/visual capture equipment.
  • Standard office computers (Macintosh and PC) and equipment, Adobe Creative Suite, Apple Final Cut Pro 7, Microsoft Office Professional, Adobe Connect, FTP programs, Internet Browsers.
  • Standard audio production equipment and software such as Adobe Audition, Audacity, Soundtrack Pro, or Sound Forge.
  • Standard office software: Microsoft Office Professional, FTP programs, internet browsers.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires the ability to bend, push, lift and assemble equipment of approximately 50 lbs.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.  Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Starting Salary Range: $20.02 - $27.51/hr (commensurate with experience)
