Job Summary

JILA is encouraging applications for a Staff Accountant to join our team! This position provides technical support work by processing financial transactions in compliance with CU and sponsor requirements, maintaining accurate records, validating documentation, and performing various financial analyses to be used by the JILA Finance Team. The Staff Accountant will determine appropriate policies and procedures to follow and make decisions as to the correct course of action to be taken for transactions and other work. Analysis and judgment are needed to ensure transactions and work are in compliance with a variety of complex standards and requirements including university, the federal government, and other sponsors.

The Staff Accountant will provide technical support work for the research payroll area by completing data entry, generating letters related to employment, researching and providing answers to employee questions, and other administrative tasks related to research payroll.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Financial Review and Reconciliation of Speedtypes. Reconcile a wide variety of speedtypes on a monthly basis to ensure records are accurate. Independently determine follow up or additional investigation of charges as needed.
  • Subaward tracking and monitoring. Receive and review invoices from a variety of subcontractors and subawards for compliance with federal guidance, sponsor terms and conditions and University policy. Track costs for all subawards including following up with subawardees for additional documentation and explanation as needed.
  • Compliance checking of purchase requsitions. Review purchase requisitions for a wide variety of speedtypes to ensure budget sufficiency and appropriate departmental approval.
  • Cash management. Receive, document and deposit RBSA Customer payments. Track A/R and perform collection services if needed. Maintain parking petty cash fund. Perform accounting duties for key deposits and internal sales to employees' funds.
  • Support Finance team. Assist with miscellaneous reporting, journal entries, travel documents and other duties as needed.
  • Support Research payroll. Administrative tasks related to research employee payroll such as data entry.

What You Should Know

  • We anticipate this position will support a hybrid format (remote and in-person work).
  • This is a 75% time position.


What We Can Offer

This is a 75% time position. The hiring range is $34,500.00-$40,500.00.

What We Require

  • Three years of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.
  • Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • A resident of Colorado.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • An associate or Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Experience with the following:
  • CU Peoplesoft finance system is highly desirable.
  • CU purchasing and expense/travel systems.
  • CU Electronic Research and Administration database(infoEd) is highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of complex accounting structures such as higher education, healthcare of similar entity.
  • Three years of experience creating and processing accounting transactions in a computerized enterprise accounting system.
  • Proficient in the use of excel.
