Job Summary

The Program in Environmental Design (ENVD) offers opportunities to learn, to create, to discover, and to achieve. The purpose of this position is to serve as a primary academic advisor for first and second-year students within ENVD. The advisor is charged with fulfilling the ENVD Advising & Coaching mission to build a community where students, staff, and faculty work together in partnership to support student's academic success, health and wellbeing. Our community aims to provide a space for individuals to do their best work, and we are stewards to the ongoing improvement of our community. The first and second-year advisor will provide interdisciplinary academic and developmental advising for ENVD undergraduates, minors, and prospective Intra-University Transfers and Transfer students. The person in this position must communicate and collaborate effectively with faculty and staff in Environmental Design and other University units, advise students about the nature and content of the curriculum and professional disciplines, facilitate the development of mentoring relationships between faculty, professional staff and undergraduates in the program, and intervene effectively with students in academic difficulty.

The undergraduate student population rostered in the Environmental Design Program comprises approximately 670 students. This person advises and connects with a caseload of approximately 300 lower-division students who are ENVD majors. Additionally, the Advisor will partner with the ENVD recruitment professionals to attend a limited number of targeted recruitment events where support is needed. This position is also responsible for partnering with the Undergraduate Education Intra-University Transfer (IUT) Coordinator to facilitate and lead ENVD’s IUT process by holding interest meetings and reviewing applications alongside ENVD leadership.

Advisors and Academic Coaches in ENVD work in a team setting and are committed to building collaborative, student-centered relationships that support the achievement of academic success, promote personal and professional development, and foster a sense of community. Half of the ENVD advising team focuses on the core curriculum for first and second-year students and guiding them to declare a major within the degree program. Upon completion of their second year, students move to our Upper-Division Advising Team that concentrates directly on professional development, careers, internships, study abroad, and graduate school programs. All advisors are cross-trained to support the entire curriculum of the ENVD degree but focus intently on key milestones within the timeline of a student's academic career.

This person will partner with cross-campus entities at key times of the year based on job responsibilities. These partnerships will include the Office of the Registrar, Bursar’s Office, Office of Undergraduate Education, Office of Financial Aid, Division of Continuing Education, Office of Admissions, Office of International Education, Veterans Affairs, Disability Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, Career Services, and other campus resources as necessary.

The University of Colorado Boulder is committed to building a culturally diverse community of faculty, staff, and students dedicated to contributing to an inclusive campus environment. We are an Equal Opportunity employer, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.
