Brief Summary of Work for this Position
- The Director of Housing and Residence Life is responsible for the overall management of all on-campus housing for students with the ability to house up to 5,560 resident students. UNCW’s residential community consists of seven traditional residence halls, seventeen apartment-style buildings, and twelve suite-style buildings.
- Serves as the Chief Housing Officer and supervises a team of professional staff, graduate, and undergraduate student staff. This position also supervises the Associate Director for Residence Life, the Associate Director for Facility Operations, and the Associate Director of Business Services.
- Responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing the
implementation of all aspects of housing services including program
articulation and delivery, budget and finance, personnel, facility
maintenance and improvements, new construction, renovations,
residence life, and educational support programming.
- Ensure financial operation of the P3 is in accordance with the Management Services Agreement between Collegiate Housing Foundation ( CHF ) and UNCW .
- Responsible for Crisis and Risk Management, with daily oversight and management of a residence hall building, including but not limited to addressing crisis situations or preventing safety and security risks while using discretion and independent judgment regarding escalation of the incident. Serves on a 24-hour on-call duty rotation for approximately 5,500 students, responding to and handling crisis situations after normal business hours.
- The Director serves as a member of the Division of Student Affairs Leadership Team and reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- Master’s degree from an accredited university/college in counseling, student development, higher education administration, or related field.
- 5+ years’ experience in full-time/post master’s central housing administration.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- 10+ years’ experience in full-time/post master’s central housing administration.
- 5+ years of budgetary experience, managing excess of $10M.
- Student leadership experience, (i.e. participation in student groups, organizations, Resident Assistant, etc.).
- Experience participating on committee(s) and/or working group(s).
- Experience reporting and following-up on maintenance, safety, and/or security concerns of building facilities.
- Supervisory experience a plus.
