Position Announcement

The Department of History, Humanities and Modern Languages at Dixie State University in St. George, Utah, invites applications for a full-time professional-track Instructor or Assistant Professor of the Practice faculty position, teaching specifically in Political Science, starting Fall Semester or August 2022. The DSU Political Science program teaches courses in American Government, International Relations, Comparative Governments, and Political Thought and Theory, as well as works with the University’s Institute of Politics and Public Affairs to inspire students to pursue careers in public service. Responsibilities
  • Teach 24 credit hours of lower-division Political Sciences courses per academic year, as well as fulfill institutional service of 6 credit hours per year by providing leadership for the University’s Institute of Politics and Public Affairs.
  • Work with Department Chair, Dean, and other faculty in the program and department on curriculum and program development.
  • Perform defined campus-wide duties, including holding office hours and attending department and division meetings.
  • Assist in mentoring and assisting part-time instructors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in History, Political Science or related field required; Juris Doctorate (JD) preferred.
  • Successful teaching experience at the college of university level required (finalists will be asked to give a teaching demonstration as part of the interview process).
  • Ability to develop innovative curriculum and appropriate course content for face-to-face instruction, flipped, hybrid, and online instruction; willingness to teach evening and summer courses, when needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with other faculty, staff, and students and contribute to a collegial environment. Candidates should respect students and colleagues from all backgrounds, and should be an advocate for women, people of color, and other groups underrepresented in political science field.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with students, staff, and colleagues, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to continually learn new skills, tools, and practices that are adopted by the professional and academic communities.
Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (9-month) non-tenure-track faculty position. Faculty service begins August 2022, with pay & benefits starting July 1, 2022. Annual salary of $50,000 - $56,000 depending upon qualifications & experience; additional compensation available for summer/overload teaching.
