Offering a new major in Race, Power and Resistance, the CSCRE is seeking an interdisciplinary scholar who specializes in Asian American Studies whose work addresses racial injustice and modes of resistance as related to Asian American peoples in the United States. Area of specialization is open, but special consideration will be given to candidates who can add to the CSCRE’s major and minor offerings in the following areas: underrepresented Asian American communities; gender/sexuality/queer studies; comparative ethnic studies; and/or modes of creative expression (e.g., filmmaking, creative writing/spoken word, visual arts, performance arts). Preference will be given to candidates who hold a Ph.D. in Asian American Studies, Ethnic Studies, American Studies, and other interdisciplinary degrees, but candidates with degrees in closely related fields will also be considered. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching, mentoring, and fostering community among our undergraduate students. Candidates should offer evidence of successful teaching and an active research agenda. We encourage scholar-activists with a record of working with groups and communities underrepresented in the academy to apply. Successful candidates will be able to teach Introduction to Asian American Studies, develop upper division Asian American Studies courses, and enter a rotation of teaching Introduction to Ethnic Studies, Critical Race Theories, or a Capstone Seminar in Race, Power and Resistance. The ideal candidate will also contribute to the expansion and growth of the CSCRE’s Asian American Studies minor and Race, Power and Resistance major. Candidates from underrepresented groups whose exclusion from the academy has been longstanding are earnestly encouraged to apply. At the assistant level, advanced ABDs are advised to apply, but preference will be given to candidates who will obtain their PhD by the time of appointment. At the associate level, successful candidates will possess the ability to perform departmental administrative duties and to grow and evolve undergraduate majors and minors that focus is on marginalized and/or underrepresented people and knowledge.

The Center for the Study of Culture, Race, and Ethnicity (CSCRE) delivers a curriculum focused primarily on African-, Latino/a-, Asian-, and Native-American people in the United States, who are usually marginalized, under-represented and/ or misrepresented in the normative curriculum. The CSCRE offers a major in Race, Power, and Resistance as well as minors in African Diaspora studies, Asian American studies, Latino/a/x studies, and Native American and Indigenous studies.
