A master’s degree in public administration, educational leadership or related field is required. Position Summary
The Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia invites applications for a Public Service Faculty position. The person in this position will serve as a faculty member responsible for leadership development training and providing assistance to public sector and school system organizations in Georgia. The position will be available as early as December 1, 2021, and carries rank in the public service faculty career ladder of the University. The successful candidate will have major responsibility for assistance and training projects involving the training and development of public sector officials to include local and state government elected and appointed officials, and school board members and staff in the areas of leadership and management development, and professional development

The position requires some overnight travel (estimated 60 nights per year). Based on the needs of the Institute of Government, the option to work remotely may be available but not guaranteed.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage, monitor, and evaluate certificate and conference programs for public sector officials and appointed practitioners in Georgia.
  • Manage, monitor and evaluate training programs, courses, workshops and retreats for school board members and/or school system educational leaders in Georgia.
  • Establish and maintain solid working relationships with professional associations responsible for the training and development of their professional practitioner members.
  • Design, develop, and deliver training programs and courses, related materials, supplementary materials, instructor manuals, activities and procedural manuals, and other instructional aids.
  • Provide technical assistance, consultation, and other services to public sector organizations in Georgia.
  • Work with the faculty, professional staff, and others to complete projects and accomplish goals.
  • Participate in division and Institute activities.
  • Participate and work with professional development organizations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Additional Requirements
The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Public Service Assistant, Public Service Associate, or Senior Public Service Associate. Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
The successful candidate will have a working knowledge of the local government systems of Georgia, state government structure, school system structure, and the professional development needs of elected and appointed officials as well as five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience in public sector leadership development government training and/or experience in school system leadership at the superintendent, assistant superintendent or equivalent level.

The ideal candidate will have a background in adult education and instruction including developing, designing, and delivering local and state government curricula for both public sector and school system environments. Significant experience (5 or more years) in securing and managing contracts is also desired. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
The successful candidate will have strong analytical skills and is expected to be able to effectively research, write, present reports, and train public officials in local and state government leadership development topics. As the position will spend considerable time working directly with local and state officials, both elected, appointed, and staff, it is critical that the candidate possess the desire, ability, and experience to interact in a very positive and supportive manner with these important customers of the Carl Vinson Institute of Government. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are needed as well as an appreciation for the complexities involved in working in a public political setting.
