Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in student affairs, higher education, counseling, or related field.
  • 10 years post-masters experience in housing.
  • Experience in staff supervision, facilities, residence life, program development and implementation, crisis intervention, and student counseling or advisement.
  • Strong evidence of progressive leadership experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including excellent wriঞ ng skills as demonstrated in the application materials.
  • Budgetary experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
License/Certification Required Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Director of University Housing will provide direct supervision, guidance, and support to the Senior Associate Director of Residence Life, Associate Director of Facilities, Associate Director for Student & Administrative Services, Assistant Director of Staff Recruitment, Selection and Training, and Business Officer.   • Direct and coordinate employee and management relationships for the housing program which employees 95 full-time staff.
  • Promote a sense of team and to provide overall leadership to the staff of the department.
  • Actively determine departmental needs and priorities and to respond accordingly through review of best practices, the establishment of committees, work groups and focus groups and the development of programs, procedures, and policies that meet university, divisional and departmental needs.
  • Foster and facilitate long and short-range planning as it relates to the department's overall program operation and university strategic goals and master plans.
  • Provide leadership and direction for departmental policy and procedural development and implementation.
  • Work in conjunction and collaboration with the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and other university department heads as it relates to policies and procedures that impact the University Housing program and its operation.
  • Ensure the University Housing Residence Hall License Contract is annually updated and vetted by appropriate offices to maintain consistency and fairness with university policies and procedures.
  • Provide direction, leadership, and support for a residential education program serving housing residents focused on academic success and personal development.
  • Develop a staffing approach that meets Best Practices in serving students and addressing student development by working with departments across campus to assist students in becoming good citizens.
  • Provide support and direction for crisis management response and case management for resident students.
  • Have a solid understanding of student conduct trends with the ability to create strategies that enhance learning environments and hold students accountable in community living.
  • Review Incident Reports and consult with staff as needed.
  • Serve on Student Conduct Boards and Threat Assessment Boards as needed.
  • Determine the needs and provide support for the computer operations within the department while collaborating with Electronic Student Services on these plans.
  • Continually work toward further utilization of resources and capabilities of the department's computer operation as it relates to all of University Housing and its programs and operational functions.
  • Ensure that all University Housing technology systems and future planning of the systems are consistent with other related departments and existing university technology systems.
  • In cooperation with and support of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, provide overall direction of room reapplication and the assignment process.
  • Establish appropriate timetables for housing assignments processes including a communication plan, dates and deadlines.
  • Work cooperatively with other university departments regarding application and room assignment policies.
  • Work with the offices of General Counsel, Camps and Conferences and Athletics to develop policies, contracts and to schedule, accommodate and meet the needs of summer conference groups.
  • Establish and manage marketing efforts to maintain full occupancy during the academic year.
  • Work cooperatively with other university departments regarding application and assignment policies.
  • Develop sustainable initiatives that align with the academic mission of the University and include the ideals of a just society that embraces all forms of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Work with staff and university personnel from across the campus to attract and retain quality staff in the areas of diversity and inclusion.
  • Ensure all staff within the department are well trained and committed to the concepts of diversity and inclusion.
  • Provide leadership during crises in the residence halls or the greater campus community as needed by Emergency Management.
  • Provide emergency assistance to staff and residents as needed.
  • Become well trained and knowledgeable of University and Departmental emergency policies and procedures.
  • Work cooperatively with the Associate Vice Chancellor and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs to provide continuous assessment and planning for renovation and refurbishing needs, as well as the construction of new residential facilities.
  • Work cooperatively with the Associate Vice Chancellor and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs to assess and plan for the mechanical and structural maintenance of our facilities, as well as, on­going repair, improvements, and major building renovation projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.
