International Student Advisor

JOB SUMMARY:

The international student advisor serves as a university DSO/ARO and is expected to be able to adequately perform responsibilities associated with this role. The candidate must demonstrate exemplary verbal and written communication skills, analytical skills, and program management. A minimum of 2-3 years' experience working in a university setting is required. Experience advising international students and working with SEVIS or Terra Dotta preferred.

Title Position Reports To: Director, International Services

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
  1. Serve as DSO/ARO and provide regulatory guidance to international students and scholars, maintaining expert knowledge of SEVP's Governing Regulations for Schools and Students and the Exchange Visitor Program regulations.
  2. Review and process “Certificate of Eligibility” Form I-20 and DS-2019 Forms for incoming students/scholars.
  3. Review and process student regulatory requests in combination with the office student information system.
  4. Monitor and maintain student/scholar records as per the Student Exchange Visitor Program (SEVIS) compliance responsibilities.
  5. Maintain communication and collaboration with relevant campus partners in an effort to serve as an advocate for and resource to international students.
  6. Organize and facilitate regulatory workshop sessions as necessary.
  7. Perform other duties as needed to support the strategic plan of the office.
  8. Assist with the coordination and facilitation of orientation and onboarding services, cross cultural activities, student adjustment programming, events and services essential for student success.

REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Extensive knowledge of SEVP's Governing Regulations for Schools and Students and the Exchange Visitor Program regulations is preferred.
  2. Ability to analyze complex immigration issues involving a variety of individuals, situations, rules and external agencies and bring them to a satisfactory resolution.
  3. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in fast-paced, highly professional and detail-oriented working environment.
  4. Ability to work collaboratively, accurately and productively in a highly active setting.
  5. Demonstrated organizational and problem solving skills.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  7. Ability to be effective in the event of a crisis management situation.
  8. Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from diverse cultures.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred
  2. A minimum of 2-3 years' experience working in a university setting is required.
  3. Experience advising international students and working with SEVIS or Terra Dotta preferred.
  4. U.S. citizen or legal permanent residence required.
  5. Excellent computer proficiency required.
  6. Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check, per federal regulations.
