    Department Summary
    University Advancement (UA) supports the University of Oregon's (UO) mission of providing exceptional teaching, discovery, and service by strategically positioning the university to create awareness, build long-term relationships, and secure resources that increase understanding and further its aims. The division consists of approximately 200 employees primarily working out of Eugene, with offices in Portland and Bend. Departments within University Advancement include: the UO Alumni Association; Development; Advancement Operations; Federal Affairs; and State and Community Affairs.     The Office of Development as part of University Advancement has a mission to maximize philanthropic impact at the University of Oregon. We do this by identifying, connecting, and engaging alumni and friends around the globe with their passions to advance the vision and priorities of the university.

    The Development Strategy and Pipeline Programs team is a centralized fundraising unit responsible for building a broad base of sustainable, growing support for the University of Oregon from alumni, parents, friends, faculty, staff, and students. This team also serves the university community by providing expertise in direct marketing, regional efforts, mid-level giving, and strategic planning to its campus partners, as well as coordinating outreach to alumni and other constituencies to ensure that communication with these groups is effective and fundraising is maximized. This team collaborates with development staff to analyze and identify prospects for development portfolios and provides strategic evaluation and measurements of fundraising progress, ROI, and indicators.

    The Annual Philanthropy Program (APP) is critical to the UO Development programs, focusing on creating robust philanthropic activity early in the donor pipeline in an effort to identify the next generation of UO philanthropic leaders. The program focuses on securing gifts under $25,000 through various traditional and emerging efforts. This innovative team leads UO's efforts in implementing best practices in identifying, acquiring, retaining, and reactivating over 30,000 donors annually. As a centralized fundraising program, Annual Philanthropy works closely with all Advancement and campus units and programs to provide expertise and high level strategic planning to ensure a healthy donor pipeline and fundraising priorities are well represented to the broader UO community.

    Position Summary
    The Director of AP will provide strategies to utilize annual philanthropy efforts to increase annual revenue raised in gifts under $25,000, work to identify the next generation of UO donors by offering a positive donor experience, create perpetual giving habits among the donor community, and incorporate the overall program into pipeline efforts at the University of Oregon. The Annual Philanthropy Program is responsible for generating over $10M in annual support campus-wide. The individual will provide a deep analysis of current and potential efforts, ensuring that annual philanthropy is constantly operating at a high level and incorporating best practices to better serve our donors.

    The Director supervises and provides leadership to both professional and administrative employees to ensure effective implementation of strategies. This position involves frequent interaction with Advancement leadership, school/college/program development officers, and university deans and directors.

    Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of skills and experience.
  • Five years of progressively higher roles within annual giving or non-profit fundraising program.
  • Three years of management experience.

  • Demonstrated skills in budget and fiscal management.
  • Demonstrated ability to create complex long-term strategic plans.
  • Knowledge of acquisition strategies and related emerging efforts within the annual giving industry.
  • Knowledge of annual giving stewardship and cultivation efforts that result in increased retention rates and donor satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of annual giving/fundraising industry-wide best practices and innovative approaches.
  • Ability to effectively manage vendor relationships to ensure optimization of various technology platforms.
  • Demonstrated expertise with giving data, identifying donor trends and utilizing data to develop high level annual philanthropy strategies
  • Ability to strategize, prioritize and multi-task to meet goals and deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively with professional peers and campus partners; ability to relate well to high-end annual prospects and donors.
  • Ability to represent the university history, mission, demographics, faculty, current programs, departments and culture, persuasively articulate how the UO distinguishes itself from peer institutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage people and/or programs, including recognizing and leveraging strengths of individual team members; navigating performance concerns and workplace conflict; setting metrics and goals; and customizing onboarding, expectations, and career planning for all team members.
  • Ability to interact, communicate, and work effectively with individuals, recognizing and respecting the many and varied identities of each person.
  • Commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Past experience with sophisticated segmentation and a multitude of traditional and emerging annual giving tools (direct mail, e-solicitations, phone programs, text giving, days of giving, recurring giving program, constituent focused giving, etc.).
  • Annual giving experience at a variety of institutions small/large or public/private.
  • Proven experience in overseeing innovative approaches to fundraising/annual giving.
  • Knowledge and understanding of UO history, culture and traditions.
  • Experience with large databases and giving and communication platforms.
  • Experience in working with annual giving at an institution during a $1 billion+ comprehensive fundraising campaign.
  • Established professional network and involvement in fundraising specific professional groups.
