The Department of Religious Studies at Colby College invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position in Biblical Studies, beginning September 1, 2022. The teaching load is 4.5 courses, including a two-semester sequence on the Bible and its reception, an upper-level course in the candidate’s areas of interest and expertise, and periodic instruction of one of the department’s core courses (“Thinking About Religion Today” and “Senior Capstone”). The department values collegiality, intensive engagement with students, and faculty contributions to the life of our diverse community, both within the college and beyond. Specialists in Hebrew Bible and New Testament are equally encouraged to apply, but candidates must be capable of teaching introductory and upper-level courses in both. The ideal candidate will have training in the broader study of religion and be conversant in theoretical work across subfields. Applicants must have Ph.D. in hand by date of application; full-time teaching experience preferred, ideally in a liberal arts setting. Applicants must demonstrate excellence in the classroom and a strong commitment both to teaching undergraduates in an inclusive, nonsectarian environment and to outstanding scholarly research. Colby is interested in candidates whose research interests advance the understanding of diversity and equity and whose courses contribute to multiple departments and interdisciplinary programs. Review of applications will begin November 1 and continue until the position is filled.
