Position Summary:

The University of Wisconsin System is transforming the administrative infrastructure within the University system. The overall transformation is a people, process, policy, and technology initiative which will include business process standardization, optimization, and redesign in the areas of finance, human resources, and research administration, and will include implementation of Workday to support the changes. The overall objective of the Administrative Transformation Program (ATP) is to right-size the administrative complexity to advance the missions of education, research, and outreach.

The IT Strategy Lead will report to the Program Director and be accountable for the relevant technical preparations and strategies for the implementation of Workday and related software. The successful candidate will be part of the ATP leadership team and will lead the IT business area and work across functional business areas within ATP (HR, finance, research administration) to ensure achievement of program goals and objectives.

The IT Strategy Lead will develop and implement strategies to promote transformation and continuous improvement in areas including data conversion, integrations, security, tenant migration and release management, testing, user experience, workflow and document management, and future state support. Additionally, this role will advance analysis and disposition of ancillary systems augmenting, supporting, and supplementing current ERPs and develop and implement governance processes for ancillary systems in a target state.

To be successful in a distributed decision-making environment, the IT Strategy Lead will also lead ATP governance groups and activities within the IT business area and proactively collaborate across UW System with IT service providers, technologists, and other individual stakeholders, stakeholder groups, and interested parties to advance ATP objectives.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree required. Candidates must have strong interest and demonstrated experience in higher education administration and leadership, information technology strategy and operations, business transformation initiatives, change management methodology, and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software implementation experience.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Successful candidates will have a strong track record in information technology operations and multiple years of relevant experience in higher education administration. Leadership experience and demonstrated capacity to work effectively with all stakeholders of a complex university system are required attributes.

Required Qualifications:
1. Knowledge of university administration in a complex university or university system
2. Experience in an IT leadership role
3. Experience in a substantial role on an ERP transformation project; cloud experience preferred
4. Knowledge of best practices for and experience with data conversions and system integrations
5. Knowledge of information security requirements for ERP systems
6. Management experience and expertise building and leading cross-functional teams of diverse individuals
7. Strong presence with senior leaders and ability to act as a partner and trusted advisor
8. Strong problem solving and creative skills, along with the ability to exercise sound judgement in decision-making
9. Strong communication skills -- both written and oral -- including the ability to communicate sensitive information effectively
10. Public speaking skills and comfort presenting to large groups
11. Strong analytical skills
12. Forward-thinking; ability to ground conversation in a vision for the future versus constraints of the current state

Strongly Preferred Qualifications:
1. Workday implementation experience
2. Knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) in a cloud-based infrastructure; tenant and release management of cloud software
3. Knowledge of the UW System and UW-Madison business support environment

Additional Information:

Anticipated duration of this position is 5-7 years. End date is dependent upon project completion.

Starting salary is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
