The Department

The Department of Psychology at California State University, Fresno invites applications for a tenure­ track position in Social and/or Personality Psychology at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will be broadly trained in social and/or personality psychology. Candidates should show evidence of effectiveness in teaching and have an active research program that can involve both undergraduate and Masters-level students. The workload is 15 Weighted Teaching Units (WTUs) per semester, generally composed of 12 WTUs of instruction (classes are typically 4 WTUs each) and 3 WTUs of non-instructional activities.

We prefer individuals who can teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in personality psychology and/or social psychology, and topics courses in one or both of those areas. We also prefer individuals with expertise in multivariate statistics and/or research methods as a secondary specialty. Additional responsibilities typically include but are not limited to, advising and mentoring students, and participation in department, college, and university service. Strong teaching skills are highly valued by the department and university. Professional development in teaching and scholarship is supported by a wide range of university centers and programs. Teaching excellence is assessed through the use of learning objectives and outcomes assessments. Specific assignments are dependent on departmental needs and the expertise of the individual.

Qualifications

Required Education:

An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Psychology, with an emphasis on Personality and/or Social Psychology or other closely related disciplines, from an accredited institution (or foreign equivalent), is required; however, applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. For an appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the start of the Fall semester (8/1/2022).

Required Experience:

  1. Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds;
  2. Evidence of successful teaching, either as an instructor of record or as a teaching assistant;
  3. Evidence of a systematic line of research that includes scholarly publications or other evidence of successful scholarship that is likely to lead to publications.


Preferred Experience :

  • Evidence of engaging students in research;
  • Experience teaching courses in personality and/or social psychology;
  • Expertise in multivariate statistics and/or research methods;
  • Demonstrated record of grant writing.

    Housed in the College of Science and Mathematics, the Department of Psychology supports a collegial, multidisciplinary-oriented faculty dedicated to academic excellence and the advancement of psychological science. We offer graduate programs in general/experimental psychology, school psychology, and applied behavior analysis serving 80 Masters-level students and a robust undergraduate program serving 1800 majors and minors. The department and college provide extensive resources to support faculty engagement and research.
