The Department

The Department of Public Health at California State University, Fresno, is accepting applications for a tenure track position in Health Administration at the Assistant/Associate Professor rank with a fall 2022 start date. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in public health and graduate courses in the MPH Program. Graduate advisement will include student projects and theses in the area of Health Services Management with an emphasis on Health Care Finance, Information Technology, or Human Resources Management. Specific assignments are dependent upon department needs. Other duties will include, but not be limited to advising undergraduate students, participating in program development, and actively engaging in research and committee service at all levels of university governance. The successful candidate may be called upon to teach in an online mode and will be encouraged to develop web-enhanced and/or web-based instruction. Outcomes assessment and service learning are important components of the university curriculum. The successful candidate will be expected to work cooperatively with faculty and staff in the department and college. Specific assignments are dependent on departmental needs and the background of the individual.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  1. An earned doctorate (Ph.D., Ed.D., or Dr.PH) from an accredited institution in Public Health, Health Services, Health Policy Management, or related field is required for appointment to a tenure track position. Candidates nearing completion of a doctorate program (ABD) may be considered; however, for continued employment in a tenure-track position, the doctorate must be completed by 08/1/2022


Required Experience:

  1. Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds;
  2. Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level;
  3. For appointment as Associate Professor, a candidate must have an established record of teaching excellence at the university level and scholarly research and publications appropriate to this rank.


Preferred Experience :

  • Candidates with successful Health Administration teaching at the university level
  • Evidence of publications in scholarly journals
  • Successful grant proposal writing and the ability to attract external funding
  • Engagement with the community and region with projects that relate to educational background and professional discipline
  • Active participation or leadership roles in professional organizations

    The mission of the Department of Public Health is to promote, preserve, and restore health. This is accomplished by educating undergraduate and graduate students to be effective leaders and practitioners at the local, national, and international levels. The Department of Public Health offers curricula based on principles of public health practices leading to a Bachelor of Science degree at the undergraduate level. The options are designed to provide basic education for careers in Health Services Administration, Health Administration, Environmental Health, Environmental/Occupational Health and Safety, industrial hygiene, community health, public health, occupational health, and the allied health professions. The Bachelor of Science in Health Science and the Master of Public Health with an option in Health Promotion are designed to prepare students for careers with official and voluntary health agencies at the federal, state, or local levels of government as well as the private sector. Additionally, students enrolled at Fresno State who are interested in study areas of drugs and alcohol can complete our 12 unit certificate program, which can be combined with a major or minor in the program or be taken as a stand-alone program without Public Health as their declared major. Finally, the certificate of Emergency Management Certificates of Special Study is a 21 unit program that provides a foundation of knowledge, skills, and abilities to respond to emergency situations in a private or public sector. Our programs are designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary for our graduates to succeed in today's health marketplace.
