The Department of Astronomy & Physics at Lycoming College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Astrophysics beginning in August 2022.
Lycoming College faculty are teacher-scholars dedicated to undergraduate teaching, mentoring undergraduate research as part of their own research agenda, advising students, and participating in service to the institution. The successful candidate will teach a three-course per semester load consisting of undergraduate courses and labs in both physics and astronomy for majors and non-majors. We seek candidates interested in using modern pedagogical methods to teach physics and astronomy. In addition, we seek candidates who are committed to initiating an active research program in astrophysics which will involve undergraduate participation in a small liberal arts college environment.
Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a doctorate or will have completed a doctorate by August 2022 in astronomy, astrophysics, physics, or a related field.

About the Department of Astronomy & Physics:
The Department of Astronomy & Physics at Lycoming College currently consists of three tenure-track faculty, one visiting faculty, and one laboratory manager/planetarium director. The Department offers a B.S. in astrophysics, both a B.A. and a B.S. in physics, a B. S. in engineering physics, and a B.A. in astronomy, with approximately 60 majors distributed among its various degree programs and all four years. Our majors are a diverse group of students with an active local chapter of the Society of Physics Students.
The Department is housed in a newly constructed Lynn Science Center, finished in 2015. The Lynn Science Center is home to a state of the art planetarium used for astronomy courses, labs, and outreach. The Department also has a scanning electron microscope which is used in courses and research. The successful candidate will have his or her own research laboratory in the Lynn Science Center.
