POSITION SUMMARY:

The Chair Department of Pharmacy Practice reports to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs– School of Pharmacy, is a senior member of the faculty, and leads the Department of Pharmacy Practice for the School of Pharmacy at all South University pharmacy locations. The Chair ensures program content and delivery are consistently of high quality, reviews curriculum and establishes/assesses student learning outcomes; facilitates the sharing of best practices between campus faculty, and balances local campus interests with program imperatives and the needs of the discipline.

KEY JOB ELEMENTS:

  • Provide overall management, planning, budget, personnel resource allocation, program development and implementation for the Department.
  • Annually develops for the Department of Pharmacy Practice a comprehensive budget that provides a quality, efficient, and technologically advanced academic programming. The budget will be submitted to administration within the School of Pharmacy.
  • Review and amend the Department's goals and objectives annually, aligning them with the Missions and Strategic of South University and the School of Pharmacy.
  • In conjunction with the Deans' Office and Experiential Education Office, develop and maintain clinical, teaching, and service partnerships with health care organizations throughout the area
  • Prepare reports and other documents as requested by the administration.  
  • Assure that appropriate catalog narrative, course criteria and descriptions for the department's contributions to the annual university catalog update are complete, accurate and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Assure a positive, cooperative relationship between the Department of Pharmacy Practice and the school and university staff and faculty at all School of Pharmacy campuses.
  • Recruit and retain quality faculty for School of Pharmacy.
  • In concert with the Dean and other School administrators, provide orientation for faculty and staff within the department.
  • Design and provide developmental activities for faculty and staff.
  • Provide proactive leadership and direction to achieve the administrative, teaching, research, and public service missions of the department and of the School.
  • Foster the scholarly development of faculty in the department by facilitating the efforts of individual faculty to obtain funds and/or resources to support research and mentor and advise faculty for progress toward promotion.
  • Assign faculty-teaching, research and service responsibilities.
  • Perform annual faculty/staff performance evaluations and recommend salary adjustments.
  • Provide didactic teaching as needed in support of departmental obligations.
  • Assume leadership for departmental strategic planning. 
  • Actively participate in University strategic planning and Quality Enhancement Program initiatives.
  • Actively promote professionalism and commitment to the profession of pharmacy.
  • Attend school and university functions where the presence of faculty and staff are required.
  • Attend conferences, seminars, and conventions that are beneficial to the School of Pharmacy and its students.
  • Actively and professionally, promote the School of Pharmacy and Department of Pharmacy Practice to the public.
  • Serve as an advocate and leader for pharmacy in local, state and national pharmacy affairs, appropriately representing the image and standing of South University at all times.
  • Serve on the SOP Executive Committee and on South University or School of Pharmacy Committees as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Pharm. D. degree
  • Post graduate residency or fellowship in specified therapeutic area or equivalent experience.
  • Eligible for a faculty appointment at associate professor of full professor level
  • Unrestricted license to practice Pharmacy in the State of Georgia, or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire date is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral practice experience, preferred.
  • A minimum of 7 years demonstrated teaching experience at the University level as a full-time faculty member with eligibility for faculty appointment in the School of Pharmacy at the rank of Associate Professor or higher.
  • Relevant scholarly experience in their academic discipline
  • Documented leadership experience or demonstrated potential for leadership and willingness to participate in professional development in this area.
  • Experience with computerized administrative systems. Must be proficient with the use of standard office applications on personal computers
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret accreditation criteria, state agency regulations, and academic journals
  • Ability to resolve inquiries and complaints from employees, students, regulatory agencies, or members of the academic or Pharmacy community
  • Ability to effectively present information to faculty, academic and campus leaders, corporate leaders, and public groups
