The Role The Department of Physics at Durham University seeks to appoint an exceptional scholar as a Teaching Fellow. This post offers an exciting opportunity to make a contribution to the development of the Department's teaching and curriculum and the successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to the delivery of excellent teaching, informed by a knowledge of and commitment to, evidence-based innovative practice in a physical sciences higher education context. The successful candidate will contribute to a range of activities in support of the Department's undergraduate teaching programme, under the management of the Director of Education. In particular, they will be expected to be able to teach in one or more of the teaching laboratories for example, Discovery Skills in Physics (module PHYS1101) and/or Laboratory Skills and Electronics (module PHYS2641) as well as support the wider teaching programme through tutorials and/or examples classes.

Teaching Fellowships offer the opportunity of valuable experience to those early in their academic careers and the University is keen to maximise the benefit to as many people as possible. The post of Teaching Fellow will involve a significant teaching load, which may extend into the summer period, and there may be related scholarship and the opportunity for administrative duties which relate to education and pedagogy.

The post is for a fixed term only of up to 12 months, and it is not anticipated that the post will be extended beyond this fixed term.

Successful applicants will, ideally be in post by 1 October 2021.
