Job Description
The Department of Biological Sciences is seeking applicants for a
nine-month, tenure-track faculty position to start Fall 2022. The
faculty member will teach a full load (12 credits) of courses
during the Fall and Spring semesters. The courses to be taught
include Range Plants, Environmental Biology, Rangeland Condition
and Manipulation, Wildlife Management, and Introductory Biology
courses for majors and non-majors. Our new colleague will have a
strong desire to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, mentor
undergraduate and graduate research, and contribute to departmental
and university service. Opportunities will exist to develop courses
in their specialty that complement our current courses and fulfill
departmental needs. There will also be opportunities to develop
outreach and community engagement activities.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT :
The Department of Biological Sciences has 16 full-time faculty
positions representing the disciplines of anatomy, botany, ecology,
microbiology, molecular biology, physiology, and zoology. The
department offers B.S. and M.S. degrees in biology. Graduate
teaching assistants facilitate undergraduate labs; additional
graduate assistantships are available through the Sternberg Museum
of Natural History, the Kansas Wetlands Education Center, and four
donor-supported research fellowships. Available departmental
research resources include a microbiology and molecular biology
research lab, extensive aquatic and terrestrial sampling equipment,
excellent computing and GIS facilities, outstanding technical
support, large museum collections for plants, insects, and
vertebrates, a tract of native prairie, greenhouse, and other
related resources. The department is housed in Albertson Hall,
which includes technologically enhanced classrooms and
laboratories. The department employs a full-time lab coordinator,
an office manager, and a half-time greenhouse manager.
ABOUT THE COLLEGE :
The Werth College of Science, Technology, and Mathematics was
formed in 2015 by bringing together the departments of Agriculture,
Applied Technology, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Computer
Science, Geosciences, Mathematics, and Physics. The college employs
approximately 70 full-time faculty, about 1800 undergraduate
majors, and 50+ graduate students. It also makes significant
contributions to the university’s General Education program and to
the Kansas Academy of Mathematics and Science, which is an
early-college program for high-achieving high-school students.
Undergraduate students participate in technical, classroom, field,
and lab experiences that many schools would reserve for graduate
students. Our academic programs are innovative, and our facilities
are outstanding. The Werth College of Science, Technology, and
