About the Opportunity:
The Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Programs will be both a strategic and operational leader, working with the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to oversee and grow the College of Science undergraduate portfolio of students. The Assistant Dean will also oversee a team of staff focused on the growth and support of the undergraduate student population.

Specifically, the Assistant Dean will be responsible for the collaborative development and design of new, innovative, and comprehensive approaches to strategic success programs and services that support and enhance the COS student experience from admissions to graduation. The Assistant Dean will contribute to the advancement of the undergraduate program in the College under the leadership of the Senior Associate Dean. This role will be responsible for directed leadership, management, and operationalization of the current undergraduate enrollment management efforts, as well as supervision of the Director of Academic Advising and the Associate Director for Student Programs. These duties may include occasional work on evenings and weekends as necessary.

Responsibilities:

Admissions Management and Recruitment Efforts:
  • Work with EMSA regarding college's goals and yield strategies.
  • Partner with college leadership to forecast, plan, and manage recruitment, admission, and retention strategies.
  • Collaborate with departments to conduct yield events and other required EMSA activities.
  • Present at info sessions & other virtual yield events.
  • Work with communications to create and update marketing materials for prospective students
  • Oversee the organization and implementation of recruitment activities for individual students
  • In partnership with the Dean and Senior Associate Dean, proactively design and implement programs and strategies to improve college recruitment, yields, and retention.

Enrollment Management
  • Conduct semester pre-registration meetings with departments to discuss course seat needs and monitor course caps, number of sections needed, time conflicts, etc.
  • Conduct semester course registration wrap-up meetings to discuss how to improve processes for future semesters.
  • Provide enrollment reports to departments, the Senior Associate Dean, and other Associate Deans
  • Use data to find trends in course needs and work with departments to maximize course offerings, especially for service or elective courses
  • Work with other colleges and programs to make sure COS is meeting the needs of our service course offerings
  • Assist the Senior Associate Dean with enrollment priorities such as Global Quest, “Semester In” programs, etc
  • Review grade distribution reports to identify trends and potential problem areas for COS courses

Student Success and Retention
  • Supervise two support services related to the success of undergraduate programs: the Director of Undergraduate Advising and the Associate Director of Student Programs.
  • Serve as point of contact for students' issues that escalate to the Dean's Office
  • Oversee implementation of Dean's initiatives, particularly co-curricular programming
  • Work directly with Student Program team to monitor key performance indicators such as retention within COS programs and four-year graduation rates, and assist in developing strategies to achieve future goals
  • Coordinate with the Pre-Health Office on mutual efforts to serve pre-health students
  • Lead the student awards committee
  • Participate in the Advising Leadership Council

Qualifications:
Master's degree with eight to ten years of applicable experience required. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and managerial skills required. Demonstrated progression in a managerial position preferred. Experience in a University setting with student affairs, admissions, and faculty relations required; preferably at an advanced research institution.
