About the Opportunity:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Transportation, Warehousing & Fleet Management, perform a variety of duties in the maintenance operation of the Auto Shop. Position will be expected to perform duties as required, ensuring anything moving on wheels is ready to hit the road.

Responsibilities:
Perform a variety of duties to ensure all university vehicles are maintained in proper & safe operating condition. Perform planned maintenance work for University vehicles. Work from work orders, schedules, etc., to perform repairs on a variety of vehicles, including automobiles, trucks, vans, buses, small gas engines, forklifts, electric vehicles and off-road equipment, etc. As necessary, lubricate equipment, inspect and/or replace hoses and drive belts, change oil, replace filters, etc. Check brakes, suspension, tires, exhaust, cooling, emission and electrical systems, etc., and repair/replace as necessary to ensure all are operating properly. Perform regularly scheduled maintenance of engine and drive train. Initiate orders for automotive and engine parts. The Automotive Department is the hazard spill response team to the University Ensure the maintenance of the work area and equipment in a clean, safe, and orderly condition and ensure the adherence to prescribed safety rules and regulations. Move materials as necessary in the performance of duties. Perform other related duties as required or as directed. Shift work may be required. Position will require working in a non-automotive capacity when necessary, as well as, but not limited to responding to overtime and emergency call-ins as required or directed to ensure proper facilities operations.

Qualifications:
High school diploma, preferably from a trade school, or the equivalent. Must have at least five years of progressively responsible experience and a thorough knowledge of all phases of automotive mechanics. Must have experience working on cars, trucks and buses, including diesel engine experience. Electronic/controlled systems experience is required. Must be able to lift up to a minimum of 50 lbs. and transport piping and equipment in excess of 200 lbs. with others. May use chain falls and come alongs for heavier lifting. Must be able to push and pull heavy loads as required. Must be able to stoop and bend for long periods of time; work on hands and knees and other awkward positions for extended periods; routinely walk to and from various buildings carrying tools, equipment and other essentials to the job site. Must be able to work alone and climb multiple sets of stairs, work off ladders, staging, lifts, etc. Must be able to work overtime as required. General knowledge of hydraulics & hydrostatic drive systems, welding, cutting, and fabrication.

Valid MA Driver's License required. Other requirements: CDL (Commercial Driver's License) with hazmat endorsement- hazmat training certificate, Air conditioning reclaiming certification, D.O.T. (Department of Transportation) medical clearance certificate

*This position is 40 hours a week. *This position requires a criminal background check. *All University staff members must successfully complete a 90-day probationary period. *Auto Mechanic is considered Essential Personnel. This is a condition of employment. *40-hours per week - Hours: Monday - Friday, 6:00 A.M. - 2:30 P.M.
