PURPOSE:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Network Services, the Lead Network Operations Analyst is responsible for the technical integrity, installation, maintenance, management and operation of CSUMB's two data centers, and the daily tasking of the Network Operations Group. This position is the technical lead for the Server Group
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
System Administration and Support: Installs, configures, upgrades, maintains and operates the Network Operation Center equipment and systems. Implements backup and storage management procedures and tools for security, monitoring and tuning to ensure ongoing operation of all services. Completes assigned service requests for Network Operation Center resources, including installation/de-installation of operating system software, upgrades, adding peripherals and providing system and network configurations; refers to vendors and/or IT@CSUMB technicians for follow-up as appropriate.
Lead Responsibilities: Ensures the functional performance and health of all campus server and storage resources including Windows and Linux hosts in physical and virtual environments; operation and performance of the campus Active Directory Domain, Okta service and all associated authentication and authorization services.Provides day-to-day tasking and technical guidance of the Server Group and Run Desk. Monitors the network, data center services, servers, storage and associated components. Responds to alerts on system outages and coordinates and executes remediation. Supports the Network Services Director on strategy, tactics and design of data center maintenance and upgrades.
Customer Service Functions: Collaborates with the Director and other IT@CSUMB staff on the development of policies, practices and procedures to maximize best practices and cost-effective utilization of Network Operation Center services and products. Prepares documentation, FAQs, and other end-user materials for the IT@CSUMB Help Desk and the campus community, as appropriate. Evaluates customer needs for data center services and recommends proper application architectures and resources based on current technologies. Communicates effectively with faculty, students, staff, and vendors, as needed, regarding Network Operation Center issues.
Other Functions: Perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of: system management and security/control procedures; structure development, features, operations, programming, and data access principles; data communication network architecture, configuration, protocols, and interfaces; operating systems and storage capacity, including ability to perform capacity planning. Ability to: identify and implement critical maintenance fixes and to isolate and correct malfunctions, including operating system and application problems; develop and execute disaster recovery plans; establish data security standards and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:
To enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in applications programming and systems analysis and related programming support functions is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science or business, or equivalent training and applied experience. Foundation knowledge and skills for the Analyst/Programmer, depending on the position assignment, may include working knowledge of a specific industry standard applications programming language and knowledge of standard systems analysis techniques.

Specialized Skills:
A minimum of four (4) years of experience in Enterprise Information Technology are required. Knowledge and skills administering server operating systems, virtual environments and data center management tools along with a firm understanding of networking, cloud-based software, and today’s Saas technologies.

Ability to install, patch, update, maintain and troubleshoot Windows and Linux Operating Systems. Ability to code and document scripted solutions (Perl, bash). Experience with Windows Active Directory and Enterprise Identity Management and configuration principles and concepts are required. Working knowledge of role-based provisioning, Authentication and Authorization concepts, End-User Self-Service and SAML Saas application integrations is needed.

This position requires excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate professionally and effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with cloud services, concepts and technologies desired. Highly desirable: Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to CSUMB’s Vision.

May require occasional evenings and/or weekend work.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

Office environment with standard equipment and tasks. Position requires working at a computer and desk for extended periods of time. May require travel between campus offices and off-campus locations.

There are components of this job which are deemed essential on campus. This position will primarily work on the main campus, with occasional work from home. This position requires working on campus with students. The health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff remain our highest priority. In the fall, students, faculty, staff, and the community can expect that masks will be required and that the appropriate degree of social distancing will be in place in all areas based on evolving guidance. Additionally, all students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to be vaccinated before coming to campus.
