About the Position:
The Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Equity Programs (DIEP) supports the CSUF mission of preparing our diverse student body for academic and professional success. We develop and support practices, programming, and policies across the broad spectrum of inclusivity, equity and civility for the CSUF campus community. Through the provision of consultation and training, we strive to promote a campus community wherein students, staff and faculty are engaged in the values of inclusive excellence. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Academic Diversity Officer. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The Academic Diversity Officer is responsible for developing and implementing proactive initiatives that support the University's strategic goals, and provides leadership, coordination, and planning for diversity and inclusive excellence throughout the university. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the Academic Diversity Officer works collaboratively with the Assistant Vice President on matters of strategic importance - with a particular emphasis on furthering the compositional diversity of the faculty, advancing equitable outcomes for students, and providing guidance and support to academic leaders to consider EDI (equity, diversity, inclusion) in all aspects of their work. Day-to-day responsibilities include leading strategic efforts to advance the recruitment, inclusion, and long-term success of faculty - particularly those from underrepresented groups. This position serves as a main point of contact and collaborator on departmental services that lie at the intersection of the work with the Division of Academic Affairs. As such, this position regularly engages with Academic Affairs leaders and decision makers on related efforts. Assists with the implementation of the affirmative action plan, offers an equity lens on the facilitation of recruitment and retention of employees, and champions practices that further the campus commitment to inclusive excellence. The Academic Diversity Officer is an experienced professional, passionate about driving diversity and inclusion strategy and fostering a culture to enable all members of the CSUF to learn and work in an equitable and inclusive environment. Performs other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Master's Degree in a related field from an accredited college or university. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in higher education administration, teaching, and/or leadership position. Or equivalent relevant experience. Demonstrated leadership and experience in advancing equity, diversity and inclusion within a complex organization. Experience with retention and promotion policies, professional development, and assessment. Experience with, and knowledge of basic faculty personnel transactions (e.g., recruitments and appointments, leaves, etc.). Understands faculty policy development and shared governance. Familiarity in equal employment opportunity and affirmative action work, including familiarity with developing and implementing affirmative action plans. Proficient at compiling and analyzing workforce diversity data.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
A terminal degree from an accredited institution. A record of teaching, research, scholarship, or creative activity, and service to support a faculty appointment. Demonstrated experience implementing Affirmative Action plans and reviewing candidate pools for university hiring. Experience training members of search committees in a higher education environment. Experience in the California State University system.
