Concordia University Chicago (CUC) invites applications for the full-time, exempt, faculty position of Director of Nursing. This will be a founding position for CUC's new Department of Nursing and will include administrative leadership in developing, maintaining, evaluating, and revising the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program and Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. The responsibilities include strategic leadership for advancing student success, participation in the hiring of faculty and staff, ensuring adherence to federal and state and university regulations, maintaining accreditation standards, and establishing strategic partnerships. This position is located in River Forest, Illinois and reports to the Dean of the College of Health, Science & Technology.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Candidates must be committed to the mission and identity of Concordia University Chicago. Additionally, they must profess values congruent with the teachings of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod (LCMS).
  • Candidates must have:
    • Considerable knowledge of education methods, administration, and current accreditation and licensing procedures
    • Experience in academic leadership and an understanding of nursing and institutional accrediting agencies (CCNE and the Board of Nursing)
    • Considerable skill to independently analyze and make recommendations regarding programs, procedures, and operations with regard to areas of responsibility
  • Candidates will be expected to:
    • Represent the nursing programs at local, state, national, and international meetings/conferences, provides service to the University and profession, and supports scholarly activities
    • Develop and maintain affiliations with clinical agencies and ensure compliance with accreditation standards. Direct and monitor clinical practicum placements and completion of required hours
    • Develop curriculum and enhance instruction within the Nursing department; teach courses where applicable
    • Provide strategic planning related to student success, including recruitment of students, retention strategies, providing faculty development activities related to student success, and data collection and analysis related to the student experience and placement of graduates

  • Improves work performance and that of others by being receptive to and appropriately sharing information
  • Prepares and monitors Nursing program budget, purchases equipment and supplies, and maintains student lab and equipment
  • Familiarity with standard technology
  • Prepares course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, handouts, class schedules, media presentations, clinical lab activities, etc.

Minimum Experience Required:

  • Two years of experience in a clinical nursing practice
  • Two years of experience as an instructor in a nursing education program that includes: teaching courses, conducting and managing learning experiences, evaluating student achievement, providing input into curriculum development, policy and procedure formulation, and evaluation of program effectiveness measures or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Three years of applicable experience in a leadership/management experience within the nursing field

Education Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Nursing required; Doctorate degree in nursing is preferred
  • Licensed registered professional nurse in Illinois or willing to obtain license transfer to Illinois
  • Undergraduate certification or colloquy completion as a professional church worker in the LCMS is preferred
