Description

The Department of African American Studies at Emory University, Atlanta, GA, invites applications for an open-rank tenured or tenure-track position in African American Studies with a focus on race and education. We are particularly interested in scholars working on the anthropology, history, or sociology of African American education who deploy ethnography, archival methods, oral histories, participatory and community-based research, or related qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. 

 

The new hire will teach two courses per semester, including departmental surveys, specialized upper-level undergraduate seminars, and graduate courses as the Department plans to expand to offer a Ph.D. beginning in 2023.

 

Qualifications

All applicants must have a demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring a diverse student body. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline/field by the time of appointment.

At this stage, we ask applicants to submit a cover letter, a CV, a 20–25-page writing sample, the names and contact information of three references, and a list of potential undergraduate and graduate courses. Candidates’ cover letters should include a discussion of their experience and vision regarding the teaching and mentorship of students from diverse backgrounds.
