Job Summary:

Reporting to the Vice President of Advancement and Communications, the Director of Advancement Services is responsible for the integrity, accuracy, and comprehensiveness of Advancement data. The position is the primary point of contact for processing donor gifts to the University, for adding and updating constituent records, ensuring the accuracy of constituent information, and performing prospect research to support and facilitate major gift strategy development, cultivation and tracking. The Manager performs research that enables the Institutional Advancement staff to reach their fundraising goals. The Manager is responsible for producing complex reports and related correspondence, and this requires interface with Finance and Administration on a frequent basis.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Processes and maintains records on all gifts, pledges and donor-related transactions daily.
  • Provides weekly updated revenue report to VP and Advancement team
  • Prepares timely Gift Acknowledgements, Receipts and Transmittals
  • Captures data in a timely manner, scans important gift documentation
  • Analyzes statistical data and extracts key information to make independent decisions on fundraising and financial capacity, philanthropic interests/tendencies, giving propensity and potential linkages to Samuel Merritt University that will inform advancement strategies
  • Oversee data management, striving for accuracy and completeness in the constituent database, as well as developing systems and procedures for extracting and interpreting data
  • Provides information, reports and updates on scholarships and endowments when needed.
  • Provides statistical data to assist in fund-raising strategy development and assessment.
  • Creates new lists proactively meeting advancement needs
  • Provides high-level prospect research on current and potential donors, including individuals, corporations, and foundations, using a variety of biographical, organization and financial sources, including online data base services, internet web sites, library, government sources and other.
  • Works closely with IT and the Registrar's Office to ensure that all information on recent graduates is accurate and up-to-date
  • Frequent telephone contact with executive management and other University personnel to respond to inquiries, schedule meetings, and obtain and relay information.

Education and/or Work Experience:

  • Fully certified in Raiser’s Edge NXT or Associate’s degree is required, Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Minimum two years of experience working in a non-profit development department.
  • Minimum two years of experience managing a fundraising and relational database system.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect and synthesize qualitative and quantitative data, think analytically, manage complex systems, and prepare reports that can be used to inform fundraising strategies in a clear and concise manner.
  • Experience in Fundraising and/or demonstrated knowledge of the entire giving cycle and prospect development.
  • Adept in navigating complex environments and dealing effectively with individuals at all business levels and a variety of situations.
  • Demonstrated high-level computer skill proficiency and software applications, including database maintenance and ad hoc report writing.
  • Ability to effectively multi-task and produce accurate, meaningful and professionally formatted work products under demanding timelines.
