The Music Program at Drexel University is an active non-major program consisting of nearly seventeen hundred students each year engaged in sixteen musical ensembles, courses, and private lessons. The program unites students from every college across the campus, brought together by an intrinsic love of music. The Drexel University Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design is dedicated to the education of students in the areas of design, media and the performing and visual arts. The Westphal College offers 17 undergraduate and eight graduate majors, housed in award-winning, technologically enhanced facilities, and taught by distinguished faculty who have worked at the top of their fields. The College values a studio approach that incorporates six months of required co-op work experience for all undergraduate students. Job Summary

The Music Program in the Department of Performing Arts is accepting applications for a director of Pep Band. The Pep Band consists of 30–40 students eager to contribute to the spirit of the university at all men’s and women’s basketball home games, as well as university events as needed. A successful director must be able to coordinate well with the other spirit teams, manage an operating and scholarship budget, and travel with the basketball teams to tournaments. Strong musical leadership is required to recruit and audition students, and to keep the band sounding at its best. Pep Band is a very public-facing ensemble and it is essential that they represent the Music Program, department, and university in the most positive manner.

The adjunct faculty member will employ a variety of strategies to foster student artistic development, learning and discussions, as well as encourage active learning in all students, maintain proper course-related records, and evaluate student work and provide students with feedback as to the progress toward meeting the objectives of the course. Each adjunct faculty member is responsible for effectively teaching students in the assigned classroom, or remote settings. Each adjunct faculty member is responsible for effectively implementing the mission of the Department of Performing Arts within Drexel’s Westphal College of Media Arts & Design. Responsibilities may include teaching days, evenings, nights, and weekends, with the potential for online only, in-person only, or a combination of both.

Essential Functions
  • Recruit and maintain a team of students that will represent the University in a positive manner
  • Work with other spirit teams on coordinated performances
  • Manage the program’s scholarship budget
  • Appropriately manage the operating and fundraising budgets
  • Schedule appropriate number of students for all home basketball contests
  • Travel with the team to assigned to post-season CAA and NCAA basketball tournaments
  • Coordinate students for events on-campus and in the community as needed
  • Teach required number of credit hours per quarter based on their contract
  • Plan and provide instructional experiences that reflect an understanding of the philosophy, objectives, and curriculum of the music program
  • Evaluate student achievement of curricular objectives/outcomes
  • Maintain communication with the program director regarding any course or student issues
  • Perform other similar duties as assigned
