Job Summary

The Associate Director of Student Life Curriculum and Staff Development serves as a member of the Student Life Leadership Team and reports directly to the Associate Vice President and Dean of Student Life. As a member of the Leadership Team, they are responsible for actively engaging in wide-ranging long-term and short-term decision-making and planning for the unit. As an individual leader, they participate fully in all discussions and represent their area as well as the broader Student Life culture, vision, mission, values, and outcomes.
As a member of the Leadership Team, they are responsible for the upholding of diversity, equity, and inclusion in their daily work and interactions with colleagues and students.
The Associate Director is responsible for leading Student Life through the process of developing and implementing a Student Life Curriculum with the purpose of identifying key learning outcomes that cut across the many experiences available to students through Student Life. In addition, the Associate Director will work with each Student Life department to develop training, selection, and onboarding processes for student leaders which align to the Student Life Curriculum. Specifically, the Associate Director is responsible for overseeing the selection and training processes for the Residential Living RA staff. They are responsible for this work at both the strategic and tactical levels and maintain a strong understanding and connection to the trends and best practices in curriculum and staff development.
The Associate Director is responsible for developing and implementing an annual professional development plan for Student Life based on Drexel’s mission and values, trends in higher education, and direct feedback from staff members. Additionally, they are responsible for encouraging and supporting staff members to fully engage in Social Justice training and educational opportunities as part of their professional development. The Associate Director makes a significant effort to know every member in the unit through both formal and informal interactions, one on ones, and attendance at departmental meetings and events.
The Associate Director collaborates with other parts of the University to ensure the availability of services and avoid duplication of services. Serves on relevant University committees and task forces and seeks out opportunities to ensure Student Life is well-represented across campus and in our field.

Essential Functions
  • Develop and implement annual professional development plan for Student Life based on Drexel’s mission and values, trends in higher education, and direct feedback from staff members
  • Coordinate and chair a committee charged with using leadership and adult learning principles to design and facilitate professional and staff development sessions on relevant topics bi-weekly for professional staff at all levels across Student Life
  • Lead Student Life through the process of developing and implementing a Student Life Curriculum with the purpose of identifying key learning outcomes that cut across the many experiences available to students through Student Life.
  • Determine and activate assessment strategies to measure key performance indicators associated with the Student Life curriculum
  • Collaborate with each Student Life department to develop training, selection, and onboarding processes for student leaders (e.g. student organization leaders, fraternity and sorority leaders, club sports leaders, and student front-desk workers) which align to the Student Life Curriculum.
  • Design and coordinate the selection and training processes for the Residential Living RA staff, including the timeline and logistical needs in coordination with the Director for Residence Life
  • Collate and promote professional development opportunities to be shared across Student Life
  • Stay current on and implement best practices in regards to training and presentation styles and technologies
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director of Finance and Administration for Student Life to secure, manage, and approve professional and staff development proposals
  • Solicit and analyze quantitative and qualitative feedback and use assessment to guide learning
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with relevant campus and external partners to improve learning design and content
  • Support onboarding process for new Student Life staff members, partnering with supervisors and HR
  • Work evenings and weekends as needed to support and properly manage Student Life functions, student emergencies, and crises.
  • As a member of the Student Life Leadership Team, serve in crisis response chain requiring availability by phone contact on evenings and weekends to advise and direct student emergency situations within the residence halls and off campus.
  • Serve on University committees and task forces and respond to and coordinate issues involving Student Life
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Master’s Degree
  • At least 3 years of relative experience
