Job Summary

The Systems Administrator at the Academy of Natural Sciences provides high level technology support to staff and visitors, server administration and assisting the Sr. Director with all technology initiatives.

This position holds responsibility for the Academy’s Server and SAN hardware infrastructure as well as its configuration, application management, hardware and software maintenance, backup, and overall strategy. Additionally, this position will see to the relevant support of staff, faculty, and students, respectively responding to support requests as needed.

This position must have the ability to critically think through projects and issues, consider the implications of choices and effectively see an assignment through to its timely end including appropriate documentation and communication.

Essential Functions
  • Linux Server Administration
    • Installation, configuration, maintenance, backup, and planning.
    • Support to Science Developers on the implementation of database, web, and other related services
  • Windows Server Administration
    • Installation, configuration, maintenance, backup, and planning.
    • Responsible for the configuration and management of the Academy’s Print Server
    • Repairing/troubleshooting networked printers and management of group printer maintenance contracts.
  • Physical server hardware lifecycle
  • SAN Environment management and configuration
    • Volume creation, configuration, and management
    • SAN and Fiber Network hardware management
  • Backup (currently AWS S3) configuration and management
    • Configure, automate, and verify backups of all ANS hosted data to assigned specifications.
    • Monitor and confirm Drexel’s yearly backup of ANS data.
    • Regularly improve and optimize backup strategy and implementation.
  • Staff Support
    • Provide every-day support for IT issues including hardware, software, and networking issues, as needed.
  • Identifies and capitalizes on synergies across the various Drexel technology groups.
  • Strategic planning of assigned technology
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer related field
  • Five years managing a similar array of workstations and servers.
  • Five years administering enterprise support, systems management, print, and access control applications.
  • Extensive knowledge of Server and Workstation Operating Systems (Windows, MAC, Linux).
  • Extensive knowledge of Server application and service management.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Ability to problem solve and make decisions.
  • Reasonable written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to act quickly, decisively, and calmly in a crisis.
  • Flexibility is a must as the duties are ever-evolving.
