Job Summary

This title is parallel in importance to the department tenure-track faculty rank of Assistant Professor, but the requirements are different in various respects. Strong candidates will have the terminal degree appropriate to the discipline and should show demonstrated promise of independent research contributions (e.g., judged by external and internal letters of support from leading researchers in the candidate’s field, the assessment of thesis or postdoctoral advisor, research funding and publication record). Candidates must also be qualified to participate in instructional activities, including advising and mentorship at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Potential instructional activities should include supervision of graduate students, undergraduate students (e.g., through Drexel VIP, NSF-REU, and/or other co-op programs), and may also involve optional participation in a formal course (ranging from several guest lectures to full instructor-of-record, i.e., course responsibility) and the organization of summer programs.

Essential Functions
  • Conduct literature reviews.
  • Collect and analyze data Record and report experiment results in a timely and through manner Communicate well with other PIs and research staff.
  • Work closely with the Alvarez Research Group Prepare materials for submission to granting agencies and foundations.
  • Recruit and/or interview students.
  • Provide ready access to all experimental data for the faculty researcher and/or supervisor.
  • Request or acquire equipment or supplies necessary for the research project Manage and respond to project-related email.
  • Prepare, maintain, and update website materials.
  • Supervise undergraduate students working on the research project (maintaining records on assignment completion, acting as a liaison/mediator between the undergraduate students and the faculty researcher).
  • Attend project meetings.
  • Attend area seminars
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

PhD or Doctorate, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related fields.

A minimum of 1 year experience.

Preferred Qualifications

One year of postdoctoral research experience.

Physical Demands

Typically sitting at a desk/table, standing, walking, Able to lift up to 25lbs.

Special Instructions to the Applicant

This position is supported fully by external funds; therefore, the continuation of employment is contingent on those funds. The Research Assistant Professor is expected to develop a self-funded program by the third year. The term of appointment is three (3) years or the termination of funding and is renewable upon the recommendation of the immediate supervisor.
